Do I really need an aftermarket cooler

I am looking at a Z370 I5 8400 build with a 1070 GPU.

Obviously no overclocking with this chip, do I really need the expense and hassle of an aftermarket cooler?

Or would the stock cooler do for now, and if I do want to I could do later?

Or would people advise to do it now, whilst I am building?

Looking at the Nocturna D15 - but looks huge! Will it fit?

Case will be the S340.

Thanks in advance

According to the compatibility part picker on the NZXT site the D15 isnt compatible. If you arent clocking just get a CoolerMaster 212 Evo, it should be more than enough. In my experience the stock intel coolers are gash and loud so id get a proper cooler and have peace of mind its cooling properly and saving your ears :)

I wouldn't go as high as the noctua , on a 7600k overclocked to 4.9 system I have one of these below and does a great job for the money .whilst the stock cooler will work an aftermarket one such as below will cool better and be quieter

edit , just saw faps reply , I've got a 212 on an older 3570k and for the extra fiver or so i'd go with the pure rock everytime as a lot quieter

Actually the Pure Rock is a good shout by danny, very nice cooler for the money.

I'm not a fan of the Intel HSF, it cools ok for stock operation but that small fan does create an unpleasant whine when the processor is loaded. Maybe I am just sensitive to computer noise?. Anyway if your someone who likes a quiet system I would recommend a 3rd party tower cooler with a 120mm fan. The Noctua coolers and fans are superb and absolutely worth the premium but you shouldn't be needing the D15 for a Coffee Lake i5-8400 unless you live in the Lut Desert, Iran! :D

I would agree with the CoolerMaster 212 Evo suggestion. They are great little coolers, performance way above it's price. They are pretty light and small too, so easy to fit and don't bend your motherboard ( lol ). You can also improve on it at a later date with a simple fan replacement. Pure Rock is also excellent and not much more expensive. Either way, a huge improvement on the stock.
