Hi All,

I have been out the gaming world for a good while now.

Looking to build a new PC to game on and do some good old benchmarking.

I have been reading a bit lately and leaning towards the i7 8700k but not impressed with the price gouging happening, also wanting to wait for the Apex or Formula boards to hit the market.

Possibly enthusiast intel?

Will also be in the market for a new monitor separate budget of up to 1k as per thread in monitors.

Will mainly play FPS and some RRP and MMO gaming as well.

Any help on your thoughts would be greatly welcome

That that you'll be able to rock an i7 8700k, flagship z370 board , 16GB of 4000hz ram and a gtx 1080Ti plus 3440x 1440p 100hz ultra wide screen!

Want to water cool ! Air cool or AIO?
Any brands you like ?

Will all be on a custom loop still have all Water cooling parts from all my previous builds so will only need a new GPU block.

I have tended to by Evga and Asus in the past but open to recommendations from others as been 3 years since my last build took place.

Will also build this all in my Corsair 900D.

Definitely Coffee costs a bomb right now. On the bright side this means greatly reduced Skylake-X prices:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £599.88
(includes shipping: £9.90)

X299 boards are a hefty price which normally dampen the appeal, however with that budget and mention of Apex or Formula it's likely you'd spend around that much on a board anyway.

How good have these generally been with overclocking?

Also is it worth going for a 7800x or would one want the 7820x.
Guess I better do some reading

4 years warranty ;)

Would the resale of these not be

Would resale of these not be difficult?
Probably worth saying I used to replace the GPU most series release.

True, Gigabyte doesn't mind cooler removal as well, but not as official as EVGA .

Should see Phanteks range for Ti cards, stunning and you get to keep the back plate

Should be a waterblock for this

On sale so brings it a few more pennies then other Evga card which is standard reference board

So this is what I am thinking. Wouldn’t mind some input if you think anything should be changed.

Coffee lake

Will most likely changed board to formula or apex when it’s out.

I wouldn't bother with the SSHD unless you want the free copy of Assassins creed ? A regular HDD would be fine otherwise as you already have a fast SSD.

Everything else looks fine (Assuming you don't want to go with a cheaper board and ram etc). Maybe check in the Monitor subsection as some screens suffer from backlight bleed. Not sure if the X34 is one of them.

Not looking too good for 7800X/7820X and gaming. I pointed out that prices, at least for the 7800X if not the X299 motherboards, were better than the inflated prices for 8700K. But I've been having a closer look at benchmarks (unfortunately majority are 1080p benchmarks) and the 7700K pretty much wipes the floor with it (as do the 8600K and 8700K). At 1440p there should be much less of a difference, and the few 1440p gaming benchmarks I've seen, show that. However, it's a lot of money to get less gaming performance at the end of the day.

Looks good, but seems you gone over price for the sake of buying certain high parts that you probably wouldn't notice if you went with cheaper priced options.. just because you got a 3k budget doesn't mean you got to spend it all, plenty of high end and even 4K capable systems to be made for up to 2k or 2.5k.

Wait 3 weeks... And see.
Chips still on allocation next week then after that will start to free up a bit :)
If your budget was £700 then fair enough but it's £3k+ . If you see a good deal on a GPU or screen then by all means pull the trigger

Funny that, allocation should stop before US black Friday ...haha

I had looked at a good few reviews and seems you are right in this, that being said there would be the ability to upgrade to a i9 later down the path which was the only reason I contemplated this.

I am all up for options that would save money, deliver a similar overclocking experience and leave warranty transferable on GPU for the resale after being water cooled.

I had read in Some threads that the 8700k would be next year before freeely available. If we looking at November more than happy to wait a little longer.
