Just seen the prices of the Ryzen 3's (£99) and considering building a small pc for my daughter but am a bit unsure

Couple of questions.

do Micro ATX boards take graphics card (probably a mini)?

Any particular recommendations for a chap board that could accommodate say a 1060 mini in the future that has onboard graphics to begin with ?

Any recommendations for small cases?

Many thanks in advance.

I recently got an i3 Alienware Steambox from Amazon warehouse for £200 and just stuck Windows 8 on it using a cheap key from an eBay seller then upgraded to Windows 10 for free.

Seems a decent little machine for my daughter's use.

do Micro ATX boards take graphics card (probably a mini)? Any size i think but you got to consider how much space your case has though and make sure you have nothing in the way of the graphics card i mean if theres a pci slot under the pci-e for your gpu the graphics may not fit but a 1060 mini would that is if you have something in the pci slot,i mean the pci-e slot is the same size as on a standard atx board that is, between matx and atx builds that is.

Any particular recommendations for a chap board that could accommodate say a 1060 mini in the future that has onboard graphics to begin with ? I'd get the 1060 mini in case it has no onboard graphics, wait i think the ryzen 3 states it has no igpu.

Any recommendations for small cases? I don't know i am no expert regarding cases... but if is a must maybe prehaps this > https://www.overclockers.co.uk/bitfenix-prodigy-m-matx-cube-case-midnight-black-ca-141-bx.html

Micro atx motherboards do not restrict the size of the graphic card its the case that is the limiting factor.

Unfortunately AM4 motherboards do not come with onboard graphics so you will need a gpu.

In order of motherboard size, starting with the biggest:

EATX = Big motherboard (4-8 PCIE Lanes.)
ATX = Slightly smaller than above, considered standard size (4-6 PCIE Lanes.)
mATX = smaller than ATX (2-3 PCIE Lanes)
ITX = smallest (1 PCIE Lane)

Obviously this is quite broad, and you can technically get bigger than EATX, likewise smaller than ITX but those are the core consumer sizes.

Number of PCIE Lanes vary by board features and manufactures, they also take into account mixtures of PCIE 2.0 x4/8/16 and PCIE 3.0 x4/8/16.

Ahh didnt know this... thank you all for the responses...

Micky you helped me choose some kit before xmas (which ive already upgraded some of)

So basically i can get any gpu as long as it fits my case of choosing.

Thanks

Bit of an update on this, have budgeted about £500 and going for a Ryzen 1400 in a b350 board with a 1050ti, which i "think" will just about be around budget however I've read a little about the RAM required and i'm not sure what to get to go with it.

I'll probably try and overclock it if I can

Any recommendations on RAM for this build?

Thanks

I'll let others tempt you with mATX- but this is small!

would be more tempted with this one but put in a Ryzen 1400!!!1 4 cores and 8 Threads will last a bit longer

£500 won’t get you the 1400 plus a 1050ti on this site and can only quote from this site, even if you went with a slightly cheaper board than I chose for example you will won’t achieve it.

The 1030 is no gaming card but it can run fallout 4 on medium with an fx 6300 rather well, so might just do the trick depending on games, but it keeps you in budget and gets you kicked started as ryzen needs a dedicated gpu and as I implied this 1030 will game better than if you just went with an older gt 710 or something, though you want a stronger card that £71 will get you old used generation of cards like the 660/760 for example.... anyways this is just an example to give you an idea.

Thanks for the responses chaps...

I've managed to have a tinker... I dont need a hdd and if i take out the 1050ti as i think i can get one i think i can get it to come in at just over £500.
