Hi all,

I'm in desperate need of a processing upgrade, as my spec suggests:
Intel i5-760
16GB DDR3
AMD R9 280X

I've just today sourced an i5 6600k from the MM, so I'm in need of a Socket 1151 motherboard and DDR4. My current plan is to source the RAM from the MM as well, but I know nothing about motherboards. A quick look on the OcUK website and it seems there are numerous chipsets available for Socket 1151.

Setting a mid-range budget of approximately £70, what chipset should I be looking at for this CPU, and what should I be aware of in doing so? I'm aware that my GPU will be obsolete in the next year or two, but my reasoning is the 6600k and 16GB of DDR4 should keep me going for another 3 years.

Any advice appreciated!

I've found Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2X8GB 16GB 3200MHz elsewhere for £165, does the low latency make that much of a difference?

I believe with intel It can - but depends on what your doing. we all want the fastest for cheapest

you'll be able to clock 8-packs up to Gigabte and Asus max rating of 386 hz and 3733 on asrock- 8 Pack should be able to help out if you need it- corsair doesn't do that :D

I can also much better deals elsewhere too, like 16GB DDR4 3200mhz CL16 for £143, but I can't link to competitors.

Mainly since you can overclock so much and get lower timings which results in higher performance. If for some reason the OP went to Ryzen later this would be a great set for that too.

If it was me I would get the cheapest 16GB 3000mhz kit I can find though. Just thought I'd link to that 8pack kit as it's on offer.

It's hard to recommend any RAM at all with these prices, even 2nd hand ebay prices are crazy. But telling someone to wait 1 year for prices to come down doesn't quite work unfortunately

Will be more then a year unfortunately- more phone using DDR4 - more wafers being required along with DDR4 demand will not ease I think
