As Catalonia have now made a clear decisive decision to be independent from Spain and to self govern, despite the Senate in Madrid declaring they will not recognise the vote and will implement article 155 (Basically 155 means direct rule over Catalonia from Madrid), what happens next?

Could this be a pre-cursor to a civil war?

I hope Spain crushes them. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think a government is obliged to offer a referendum on independence, but they are obliged to maintain the stability and security of the nation. Ours gave a referendum and the secessionists didn't accept the loss, instead they continue to push for another referendum. There is no end to these people.

Absolutely spot on.
