980Ti to 1080Ti for VR?

Just need some feedback from those who made the step from 980Ti to 1080Ti particularly for VR?

This is something I am considering as selling my two 980Ti's would allow me to get near the cost of a 1080Ti. However I may hold off, if the gains are not so significant in VR as I still benefit from SLI in some of the games I play and it may mean I am just aswell holding off until the next big release.

That being said a single 1080Ti wont be much behind my sli setup anyway so might still be worthwhile?

The 10 series is much better at VR than the 9 Series card because of
Simultaneous Multi-Projection technology, which enables new VRWorks Lens Matched Shading and Single Pass Stereo rendering techniques.

So event the GTX 1080 should be better than your 980 TI SLI for VR games. A GTX 1080ti should wipe the floor with them.

So looks like the GTX 1080ti is the best VR option. And it would seem better then 980ti sli even if sli works in VR usage.

I have 1080Ti SLI and a Rift.

I can run just about everything with 2.0 SS. To be honest, most games don't make use of SLI in VR, and for a while I had SLI off as I was bitcoin mining (and turning SLI on and off each time I gamed was annoying).

I haven't used VR on a 980Ti, but I can say that with even a single 1080Ti there is very little that can challenge it.

I went from a 1080 to a 1080Ti and VR is epic on the 1080Ti (it was decent on the 1080 in fairness). Nothing I use struggles with frames and I play things like PCars and Elite Dangerous. Flys along with those 2 and SS x2 in ED.

Thanks - I think I might make the move. I know SLI is non existent in VR it does work in some of the desktop titles I play, though. But if the 1080Ti is that good I will be making the move I think.

I like the sound of SS @ 2 in ED. :)

Ok whats wrong with my rig then.

I can't get anywhere near SSx2 in ED. My stutters like mad at the hanger screen before even loading the game Text is blurry too. I can see how many messages I have until I lean in really close.

Not got around to ED yet. Are you using the Rift or Vive? If you are using the Rift, what version are you playing, Steam or Oculus store?

I purchased direct from Frontier a couple of years back so I'm assuming its the Oculus store version. I launch from the ED launcher and it boots up the Oculus app.

I've been thinking about buying the futuremark Benchmarking set (with the VR test) just to make sure I have set the rig up properly. ( score would indicate yay/nay)

Game is running from my 960 Pro M.2

No idea but runs smooth as butter for me with 2xSS

Is there any VR game your 980ti is struggling with? I ask as the only game my r9-290 struggles with that i play is Lone Echo. Obviously I have my setting lowerd on some games but there perfectly fine

I was getting stuttering using the steam vr version, downloaded the oculus store version instead and it's much smoother.

I dont think the 980Ti is struggling as much as I want to push VR more with supersampling.

Big problem I guess is I like to use SS and have found the sweet spot to be 1.7 where my card almost makes the grade, but not quite. Also I dont really need the two cards anymore so I could sell them while they are still worth something and get the 1080ti.

If I run at 1.0 SS with max settings it smashes everything but for some of the games I play I need more especially for view distance related stuff in certain simulation games, otherwise it looks a complete mess. Which is what I mostly use VR for anyway.

Games I feel need a bit more off the top of my head are the truck sims and elite dangerous. Assetto is good and project cars 2 is pretty good also. Truth be told I could probably hold off until the next nvidia release and this is why I am still undecided.

Yeah if you like to SS then the extra boost would come in handy, I’m surprised my 290 is holding up as well as it does, I planned on buying a 1080 after the Rift I bought in the sale, but I don’t feel the need at all now, so personally I’m holding off for Volta

I had a little play and clocked my 1080Ti upto 2000mhz and that seems to have stopped the stuttering.

SS x2 and HMD 1.5

Whats weird is the menus GUI is a lot clearer if I move my actual seat closer to my desk. So in game I'm sat further forward.

Got my 1080ti to replace the 980ti's. Definitely a worthy upgrade for me personally. Not only does it benefit vr but it gives enough boost to make 4k a solid 60fps in everything I play with ultra settings.

It also stays pretty cool and quiet "for a stock cooler" although the idea of using my WC bits and fit a waterblock on the gpu is tempting.

Boosting to 1975 on the core out of the box.

Are you using the Rift or the Vive? If you are using the Rift, are you using Oculus Tray tool? You might be doubling up on SS. If you set SS in Oculus tray tool and then set more SS in game, then you are going to seriously impact performance.

No I tried to use the Oculus tray tool sort out the issues but it didn't help. Most probably user error.

What I can't understand is why some text is blurry until I lean in and then it clears up. Almost like I need glasses
