Hi guys a friend of mine wants an imac for photo shop just to edit photos he takes and scans in could you recommend which ram and hard drive to get please he wants the 27" version and it to last him a long time.

I know the coffeelakes are not out yet on imac so I will recommend he waits for them but I know nothing about photoshop or imacs.

Tell him that he doesn't need a mac to edit photos. Some people have the completely misguided notion that Macs are a prerequisite for photography or graphic design.

He know's that already I told him pc would be cheaper but he loves apple has everything apple if you know what I mean.

All depends on what photos. It sounds like he shoots film and scans them in? Does he scan to jpeg or raw? High resolution (50-100 megapixels) or low resolution 2000x3000 images?

The gfx card isn’t particularly important, although it can help a little. An SSD for storage and a reasonable amount of RAM is more important. 16GB should be plenty for the next few years if it’s just standard photos.

thanks

He mainly takes pictures with his film black and white camera gets them developed then scans them in from what I understand, I think he said file size is quit low like below 100mb.

100MB is big for an image file so presumably he scans at a high resolution into Tiff format (or similar).

16GB will still be fine most likely. Personally I wouldn’t go any lower if he wants to keep it for a while, 32GB is probably overkill at this point.
