galaxy tab pro 10.1 upgrade?

i got the new ipad 9.7 32gb wifi model for £339 with 2 years warranty . to be honest. its a best tablet out there for that price. i'd spend extra £40 and get the ipad.

dont let apple icon push you off.

i wanted the android tablet but a 'good' one cost over £500. i compared the ipad 9.7 and samsung s3 tablet cost £600 and ipad feels better for tablet experience.
That's an extremely good price for an iPad I confess. Whilst I completely agree with you that it is the best tablet around, I don't at all enjoy the OS as it feels dated when it comes to adding what i want to the device.

On android I'll just plug the bugger into my PC and drag and drop. No iTunes bloat needed for the most part. I had considered getting an iPad mini for my dad but I don't think it'll integrate well with his day to day activities.

i installed google photos and google drive on the ipad so i can access anything on the PC/phone whichever i saved on the ipad.

I'd spend another £100 for the privilege of not using iOS.

iOS is iOS, makes no difference what device it's on.

For easy of use, compatibility and my sanity I'd rather never use it. I often get asked questions about iOS by people and I just look at them blankly, I hear iTunes this, sync that, authorise this and my eyes glaze over.

Well the Tab 4 Plus is nice and fast. Impressed with the build quality - it maybe plastic but it feels rigid unlike the Nexus 9 from a few years back. The box comes with a USB-C charger and lead - I didn't check the rest :o

  • The OS is almost stock running 7.1 out of the box, with a 287mb update available though I'm not sure what it is as there is no proper description. I'll search for details on this update tomorrow via it's filename. Most of the bloat (not much) can be uninstalled barring the Lenuvo keyboard - I'm using swiftkey so I'm not bothered. The MS Office suite of apps seems to be there but can be uninstalled luckily.
  • Performance wise, it is very nippy and battery life seems decent so far though it is very early days. It was at 51% out of the box and is down to 46% after installing and configuring a ton of apps. The snapdragon 625 as expected handles everything very well and I'm expecting good battery life once I've set the tablet up properly.
  • The IPS display as I expected is taking some getting used to. The dot pitch (220ppi) isn't there and I can instantly spot the difference vs high res/dpi displays I'm used to. I'll test the sRGB option out properly tomorrow with some images from my DSLR that I'll mass dump onto an sdcard (not tried any yet) I guess.
  • I am very impressed by the sound coming out of those two FFS's, it seems very clear with little distortion - though I'll be using headphones 90% of the time. Still a good positive imo.
  • The entire device is a fingerprint magnet. Glass on the back means that a case is pretty much essential!
  • Fingerprint reader reminds me of the useless one on my Note4. It is very inconsistent so I use pattern unlocks. The fingerprint reader that is situated on the front is not a button FYI.
Quite impressed so far with about 2hrs of use.

Well there's one nagging issue I have and just one. I initially didn't report it because I was hunting for solutions.

Vertical scrolling in any app, websites etc is incredibly slow. It is definitely the OS rather than a hardware issue. On any other tablet a simple flick can scroll a whole page or two. Lenovo's setup seems to advance a half a page or so. Not sure how to describe it. It results in finger fatigue rather rapidly.

Ive found the same slow scrolling on the Samsung S3 tablet as well
It shouldn't be like that one bit tbh - make no sense. A flick gesture on the screen should, for the most part initiate a solid scroll operation - My previous tablet (before this Lenovo) was a Samsung Tab S8.4, and that has always behaved the same as my wifes iPad in terms of scrolling performance. It shouldn't take me 3x finger flicks to advance through about a page of content on a website.

I guess the tablet is still quite new so rom development hasn't quite emerged yet as I'd be tempted to see how those fare.

Battery life on the thing is nuts. After a lot of use yesterday, web browsing, watching ST:Disco on Netflix and some YouTube, I was down to 78%. Standby life seems extremely good so I'm still waiting for it to fully discharge so I can perform a full recharge.
