VEGA HALLOWEEN DEAL: 56 FROM £389 & 64 from £455 (END NOVEMBER 3rd 18:00)

Does my nut in this "deal price" thing when that's what they SHOULD be selling for at absolute maximum. I love how the "free" games don't get included and somehow crank the price up despite being "free".
It's mad that simply selling at RRP is considered a deal now. I feel like there's a Chris Rock quote for this.

Oh wait there, aren't these actually still above RRP? The 56 is supposed to be 349 isn't it?

I'm not sure what the RRP is TBH. I think at launch OcUK had the 56 for £360 then it shot up. When I bought my 290X at or just after launch it was less than RRP.

that's more like a 'supported' price from AMD, so they didn't **** the gamers off too much.

I'll stick by what I've been saying, AMD are definitely losing money on each Vega sold as they're so reluctant to reduce their overpricing. Probably the main reason that Raja is on his 'gardening leave'

Either way, it's still a ridiculous mess of a situation.

Well this mess is why I got a Titan Xp. I really wanted to buy AMD because I don't like supporting nVidia and their BS business practices, but these are BS businesses practices as well.

I doubt they're actually losing money, but I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't making much when you take into account the margins of everyone else involved and taxes.

I doubt that's why Raja is away. Vega wasn't really his project, his project was Navi, no?

Yeah, I appreciate OcUK doing these kinds of deals but a decent custom cooled Vega 64 needs to be ~£400 to be worth it I think, considering nVidia's offerings. Even then that's still expensive when you consider what was around 2 years ago. RAM price increases haven't helped, of course.

Why? The non reference 1080's start from £500 so that's a fair starting spot for the non reference Vega's, The 64 offers good performance that's in line with the 1080 and often better depending on resolution.

~£450 is a fair price for Vega64 IMO.

It's a good card. Just late and terribly overpriced (aside from launch and this deal).

If 450 pound for the V64 is good, then whatever price the 1080 came out for must have been amazing given what it offered at that point in time.

My point was more about what makes a 64 at 450 a good price. I honestly can't see anything about it that does, and I own a V64.

If you think £450 is a bad price and isn't worth it at that price, you shouldn't have bought one. If you paid more than that....

I think you should return it and sell your Freesync monitor. You are already complaining about the performance and you hate the price. Is it going to be like the 290x you bought? Where you complained about the noise for the whole time you owned it, but never once did anything about it. AMD cards are obviously making you unhappy and life is too short.

Vega is quite frankly just disappointing at this stage and I've tried being optimistic about it as I would much rather get one over a nvidia card.

1. Still no AIB and £450 for a reference model is crap no matter how you try to spin it, unless you are someone who is happy to void warranty and go down the water cooling road. Good vega AIB models will cost at least £480/500
2. In the last few months of game releases, vega is looking to be great on day 1 compared to nvidia but once nvidia gets a driver out, the gap closes significantly and in some cases, even over takes vega (even in vega/amd optimised games i.e. wolfenstein). This could be a plus though in some ways, as the nvidia defence league love to remind everyone about how they like getting performance on day 1 and not waiting days/weeks/months for it, this might not be the case any more with future titles though??? Saying that this could also be a plus for nvidia gpus/owners as nvidia won't like seeing their current lineup getting beat by vega, so pascal will be getting some special extra love (to bring the performance back as shown in forza and now wolfenstein), at least until volta arrives and then pascal will take a back seat for driver priority/optimisation.....
3. Having to faff about with power states/power limit in order to get the best performance from vega i.e. stop throttling and so on

I just wish nvidia would announce support for adaptive sync, if they really wanted amd out of the game, I imagine this would more or less do it.

At this stage in the game, I will probably just pick up a cheap PS 4 on black friday and wait until volta arrives and re-evaluate the PC/GPU market around then and decide if I want to keep with PC gaming or if I am just happy enough to be a casual PS 4/console gamer again......
