Would you buy a GPU in the states?

Very tempted to buy a GPU when I am over in San Diego next month.

As it stands I can get a Gigabyte 1080Ti for £530, in store. ...It costs £728.99 here.

Very tempted. Quite a large saving. £200

Am I right thinking EVGA have a global warranty? Can get an EVGA card for £538.

Technically you're saving £110 on the card and an extra £90 if you manage to smuggle it through customs :p
That's really never the case though. I've brought through tons of new stuff from the states over the years, been searched a number of times. Never an issue. They are looking for cigarettes and alcohol. Brought a new macbook back with me once, still new in the box. They couldn't care less.

EVGA just emailed me back to confirm if I had an issue then I could send to their UK RMA centre and not have to return to the States. Seems a no brainer at this point?

Not sure on Taxes but I know I bought a watch in Florida for £400 and had to pay something like an extra £80 on top for state tax.

Thats true, CA sales tax is 6% - so an extra £32. Still saving £168 quids.
Depending on where you buy it if you have your passport with you at the time they'll knock the sales tax off - happens in almost all the big NY stores, not sure about California though as I've never bought anything expensive there. You can do it in the airport too, there's usually a counter somewhere.

Superb, I'll drop them an email to see if possible.

Electronics are a weird one, they rarely seem to get picked up by customs. I've ordered cheap parts stuff from China before and nothing got stopped.

They care about people profiteering without paying tax. That's what they look for. So tons of Cigarettes or Alcohol, or a suitcase full of GPU's would do it. Something where it is clear you intend to sell and make money while paying no tax. For something you have clearly bought for yourself (1 GPU) they couldn't care less.

I think it's up to the individual tbh. You are making a blanket statement. If that customs officer is a gamer and knows it's worth £800 then he will do him for it.

So all he has to do is break open all the seals. Rip the box a little make the manuals look a bit tatty by bending them, etc. Then say he had taken the card over with him so he could game on his cousin's PC.

maybe even spill a bit of coffee on the manual, etc.

Surely every customs official knows that a MacBook Pro is worth over £1000? They literally had it out my bag, still new in the sealed box, clearly just bought. Couldn't care less. They were looking for Cigarettes, Alcohol, Banned foodstuffs and contraband.

Problem is... I'm still rocking a 1080p monitor :p:p:p What am I going to do with a 1080Ti lol

Buy a monitor whilst you're at it! If you could get me the LG 32UD59-B that'd be great. It seems no one stocks it here in the UK.

Worst case scenario is to get it out the box and retail packaging and claim it's for personal use :P

could have been his first week on the job. they do tend to let electricals through though especially if it's just the one for home use. but he could have also hit you with a big fine had he been thinking about it. as that £1.5K is probably worth 5 times what someone caught with cigarettes is bringing through.

it's probably a combination of poor training and the individual. focusing on what alcohol and cigarettes and contraband and forgetting the harder hits.
