If enough people think something, does it become true?

What was that saying Joseph Goebbels said "if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it"

Religion is a funny one because really it is an act of faith. If you are honest then you will admit that you cannot ever know for sure but that you do it anyway, like a spiritual insurance policy. But many are absolutely adamant that God exists and their religion of choice is the divine truth. They've had that narrative pushed and reinforced for so long that it is utterly entrenched in their minds.

When I read this my first thought was there's no bigger act of faith than believing in the value of paper money, which brought my thinking back to the thread title

I remember reading an article, can't for the life of me remember where, but it was altalking about counterfeit currency. Basically all legal tender is created in debt. For arguments sake of £1 is created by the banks but the cost is £1.30 then you are forever in a debt cycle.

Counterfeit money is created for free. If my counterfeit money was so good as to be undetected and it was used by a community then it would have a positive effect on that it has generated growth. It's the same way the Mafia operates. The Mafia open legitimate businesses backed by drug money, whatever, but they employ large amounts of staff and closing down these business would have a negative impact on the local economy.

-Racist
-Homophobic
-Misogynistic

Now if you do any research at all in to his past or current views, there is far more evidence to prove the opposite of these claims, than the proposed."

Your whole post falls down there. I actually laughed.

What this one?

Yes I know there is more to it than that. But everyone keeps going on about the bus. But no-where on the BUS does it say WE WILL fund the NHS with the £350 million instead.

Not the bus, but it was on posters bearing essentially the same message -

And tht kinda proves the point of the thread. Did enough people believe it to make it true. A lot of people did think it was true.

However. I don't remember the Remainers coming out at the time and saying it was Bull. They missed a trick there

And that enough about politics from me. I don't know enough to add any more. I live in my own bubble to much...lol

Problem is they won't do any research, they are lazy and won't read anything other then what others tell them, be it users here or the news media, which they will repeat themselves, like it's a game of chinese whispers where the truth keeps getting changed and warped to the point where we get fake news.

In the end, they will start to act like a mob and start doing personal attacks to try to discredit you, committing internet harassment, bullying per say. That's how the left operete.

The far left are just insane and massively racist themselves, in my view equality means that you shouldn't treat someone differently based upon their differences (race/sex etc) but the first thing the far left do in ANY situation is identify the differences and then give any minority special treatment. It's just discrimination in reverse.

The far left with their militarised Antifa claim to be fighting against fascism but really they tick more boxes than anyone else when it comes to fascistic behaviour.

Very true, everyone should be treated equal and seen as equal. The moment you start making laws or making changes for others is when you start treating them as different is when it starts becoming racist.

Not to say, I don't see the logic behind it, but it's self-defeating and like you said, it's discrimination in reverse.

Regarding antifa, they got more in common with the SS they the real anti fascists who died fighting the Germans in WW2.

To be fair I've not worn a poppy for years and don't intend to do so again. I can't be bothered being involved in it or engaging with the debate on it at all, it's just turning into a ridiculous political football over who uses the symbols, who wears poppies and where and when and what it means...

I'll just quietly give to an armed forces charity and that's enough for me. I don't need to wear a poppy to do that.

My elder German grandson, (22), is over for a few days, I noticed that he was wearing a poppy, and asked if he got it here or at home, he said that he bought it in Dover, and as both his grandfathers served in WW11, (one in the SS), the other in a tank regiment in Normandy, (my dad), both of his great grandfathers in WW1, one on each side, and his own father, (my son), in peacetime in Germany, he reckoned he was more than entitled to wear it, and if anyone cared, Germany has their own day, Volkstrauertag, on Nov 19 this year, for all Germans, military and civilian, who died in armed conflicts.

The lie is that we send £350 million a week to the EU and that we’ll have an extra £350 million to spend when we leave. People believed it. Boris is still talking about an extra £350 million a week for the NHS.

I wouldn’t believe Boris if he said that it got dark at night.

Antifa have been around for decades. How and why did they suddenly become the bogeyman? Why are there suddenly so many fake, often Russian-controlled, antifa bots on Twitter?

There’s obviously a correlation between the two and it feels like people are being manipulated into believing that antifa are some great threat to our democracy.

I don;'t think antifa becoming disliked has much to do with Russian twitter bots, there is plenty of footage of how they've behaved at various rallies etc.. they've simply had some publicity recently since the election of trump and the various arguments on US college campuses, people have seen what they're like and most people dislike them

Have they though? The amount of disinformation has been alarming. Many of the photos credited as being from the Berkeley and Charlottesville counter-protests - including ones posted on OCuk - have turned out to be from years old protests in Greece following the economic collapse there.

This is the perfect example of “if enough people believe it...”.

there have been plenty of press clip, reporting etc.. yes. I'm not sure the odd dubious photo really counts? CNN has covered antifa plenty of times and I don't think they've got much incentive to deliberately use fake photos, whether something has slipped into the reporting or not there has been plenty of genuine footage shown

it isn't really a perfect example at all

Reporting of what exactly? A bit of property damage and the odd punch. Meanwhile, the neo-Nazis and white nationalists they’ve come to counter-protest are committing acts of murder, terrorism and intimidation.

Why do people like @IronWarrior bang on and on about antifa when Nazis and white nationalists are demonstrably a much bigger threat?

I'd assume most people strongly dislike nazis too, that doesn't distract from the multiple arrests and well documented violence from antifa, trying to absolve them because you saw some pictures of another event get conflated with them on some news site you've not named is pretty dubious

Both Antifa and the White Supremacists are just useful idiots. Their antics are just hastening the eventual decision to ban public protest in large numbers. Then where will we be when governments decide to send is into yet another unwanted military engagement or some new unpopular legislation that plunges the most vulnerable into poverty.
