In all fairness people will forget about TouchID simply due to this hype... coz newer must be better lol.

But for myself, I’m still going to use my 8 plus for another year and wait for second gen iPhone X coz touchid is still a part of my life... I don’t really need to even think about unlocking my phone becoz my thumb is always at the home button whenever I pickup my phone and it’s always unlocked before I even look at the phone lol

I do hope they put touchid back in second gen
Touch ID is never coming back.

Several of the reviewers have described Face ID as essentially going back to the point 10 years ago when none of us had passcodes on our phones. In other words, it's so seamless, that you forget there is any security on the phone. If that bears out in practice, that's a massive win for the user experience. I was very skeptical, but I'm now super excited to get my X on friday...

It will be brilliant, and people will have to learn to accept it as next year, the follow up for the 8, 8S most likely, will ditch Touch ID too and have Face ID built in. Touch ID is effectively dead, I'm sure Apple would have loved to have put Face ID on the 8, but while it's such an expensive set of components, it could only go on the X. Come next year when manufacturing has matured on it, it will be in every iPhone

And Face ID will be able to go into Macbooks and iMacs as well -- again a huge improvement to the user experience.

I can see pluses and minuses with both systems. In the car for example I'm concerned that with Face ID when I want to unlock my phone in it's cradle, it won't work without me looking at it.
One of the reviewers (iJustine) said in her video that Face ID worked great while she was in the car with the iPhone mounted.

Got an X on order and looking forward to trying it.

My concern is, I'm used to the 7 Plus and it's the perfect form factor for me when traveling abroad, as it's like a mini tablet it's all I take with me. I like that the screen rotates and the safari browser shows the tabs in landscape. I like that when watching movies on a plane you can hold the bezels without touching the screen.

Just not sure how I'm going to get on with it. If I don't it'll be going on the MM and I'll just get an 8 plus until a possible X plus arrives next year.

The law states you can only use it hands-free while in the vehicle... ie, using voice commands or steering wheel controls... if you have to unlock it, you are handling it

Hmm I thought the law stated that you cannot hold the phone. So if the phone is in a cradle and you press it whilst driving that is illegal?

Surely it's no different to a radio in that case?

That's what the two week no quibble return is for - if it works for you then great otherwise if you get fed up with it you do have an opportunity for a refund. I've got my Pixel 2XL and my X order open still, god knows what I'll end up keeping. I'm still leaning towards the 2XL at the moment but if FaceID is as good as they say then we'll see.

For me the best the phone is the one that needs the least amount of interaction to use, especially with the keyboard. All that fat fingering does my head in.

I've got two open orders, one arriving launch day from O2 and the other a week later from Apple and I'm contemplating cancelling them. Almost certainly carried away with the pre-order hype and now with all the videos out I'm a bit non-plus about it really.

Possibly leave the O2 one open, give it a test but pretty sure it's not the phone for me.

For those considering charging options...

I've gone for this collection...

Wireless stand: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074V3SJ9H/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (Was £11.99 earlier....picked because it doesn't have loads of annoying lights on it like other stands seem to)

Charger: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01KTJ2BGW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Has QC 3.0 for wireless 'fast charge' (7.5w after software update) AND a 29w USB-C port for wired 'fast charge'

USB-C Lightning https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B072Q9TVD8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Just the cheapest cable I could find.

All together this should give me wired & wireless 'fast charge' from a single plug, for about £36 :).

As much as I detest the pricing of the Apple cables, I’d be a bit wary of the third party lightning to USB-C cables. A lot of them don’t properly support fast charging. Also applies to the chargers, but I guess that’s a bit more obvious :p

Apple doesn't support the QC standard, and the standard certainly won't transfer through the Qi standard. Wireless charging is very low demand, any decent charger that gives you 10W is enough.

The QC port will be used by the Wireless Stand, which requires QC3.0 to supply 15w. I know the iPhone only does up to 7.5w but I thought I'd get it right first time incase next year they bump it up to proper Qi Fast Charge :)

Argh you're right, just checked the full spec and they don't seem confident in providing power. Will cancel & look elsewhere.
