Virgin Media Discussion Thread

IIRC the package I got was delivered by Hermes / Yodel one of the other less desirable courier and not Royal mail, might explain why you never received it.

Most likely Yodel. My SH3 is due for delivery today between 1655 and 1855 but I know with Yodel that means 1854. We are always last on the guys delivery round so its quite handy.

Good luck! On my recent upgrade Yodel failed to deliver it so many days in a row, despite a guaranteed day being offered when the upgrade was finalised, that Virgin sent an engineer out, for free, to install it for me.

If it happens to you, just ring up and complain. Despite the fact we're perfectly capable of plugging in a router, their only other option is an 'engineer install'. They'll waive the £40 fee and when/if your Yodel package does eventually turn up, just refuse it and it'll be returned to Virgin.

Noticed bill was higher than I expected.

I'm on 100mb + talk weekends with 12m line saver and it was still 29.47/m

Poked virgin and its now 200mb + talk weekends with 12m line saver for 21.00/m

So I got nothing from retentions who wanted to charge the full price online and instead went in store and signed up for the £44 300mb + talk weekends with the line rental saver taking it down to £25 once that's paid. Not mind blowing but better than the £55 retentions offered!

It got delivered, we were 4th last on the delivery route. Will set it up next Tuesday when I get home else missus will be without Internet for a week if she tries.

Cancelled my package fee free with the price increase e-mail. I'm moving soon so was facing a large penalty for leaving mid contract but that price increase let me cancel for nothing, never been so pleased to see a price increase :D

Was an ordeal though trying to cancel but done.

Moving to a new build where they don't offer their services annoyingly. Will miss my 200+meg :(

I'm the total opposite. I moved from a new build to a old build. And went from BT to Virgin. BT Said my buy out fee was about 242 quid (I can't get BT where I live) so I cancelled and received a refund of just over £75. Confused lol. Maybe it's time to put the lotto on!

Quick question guys. I got a SH3 a week ago. My brother is really complaining about lagging on fifa. He connects to the router via home plug. Does the SH3 have any known problems with gaming as opposed to he SH2 that I had before?

Yes. Google "puma 6 gaming lag". Or just read the last few pages of this thread.

I get the same everynight mate, my connection is shared with 2 brothers and they both spend most nights on Fifa crying about the constant lag.

Thanks for getting back with your results, I was wondering how you got on. Tweaknews (Highwinds) have a five euro recurring monthly special atm. Five years' retention, full access to the usual Highwinds Media servers (same as Newshosting et al) and free IPVanish VPN thrown in (also owned by HW). I'm getting 380Mbps from them on port 443. I don't know if I can link it here but you should find it in a search. If not, drop me a Trust or PM.

I've signed up for the trial but in the members section where it gives you login info. It just says loading under user name and password. I also can't see it mentioned anywhere about wether they log downloads in fact one review I read mentions that they give no info about this at all, had to use phone number to get code for trial, hope I'm not gonna get spammed!!!

So Virgin Media has just dug up most of Chatteris (little market town near Cambridge) and made a bit of a mess of the pavements/roads ;)

I don''t think it's "live" yet and I'm not sure the take up will be huge as we already get pretty decent Infinity 2 in most of the town.

While 300Mbps is tempting I can't say that I feel that compelled to move away from my current FTTC connection, where I get a pretty solid 70/20Mbps.

Is this the infamous Puma issue of SuperHub3?
Setup is SH3 modem mode + Asus N66U

New VM line activated yesterday so running some monitoring.

Yeah, pretty much. There is a new firmware on test that improves ping and DNS UDP, (was previously known as V firmware) which will make your graphs look better, but doesn't impact the problem with TCP latency/jitter.

Virgin are dead to me until they release the SH4. They can't fix the issue the SH3 is having. So signed up with a 12 month contract with Plusnet for the time being. Getting 76 down and 19 up on average so not bad for now but most important thing is nice low pings.

What are you doing to see the problem?

I upgraded two accounts to 200mb and was given the SH3 to replace my superhubs which wouldn't go above about 113mb.

Running a speedtest with the SH3 I see a consistent 14 ping, 220mb dl and 12mb upload.

Also for unknown reasons despite the two accounts being identical one is being charged 21/m and the other at 20/m which is a saving of £1/m on what I was told so.... ok... :p

I can't see a compelling reason to swap from a working FTTC connection to Virgin Media - it's too much of a lottery. Even if your area isn't oversubscribed it's anyone's guess whether they will break their network in new and exciting ways, or mandate a change of cable modem to a complete heap of junk. And then spend an order of months even getting round to admitting there might be an issue that needs looking at.

anyone had this offer ?

your faster fibre is ready to go!
Good news travels fast. (At up to 200Mbps, in fact.)

We're ready to upgrade your Virgin Fibre speed from up to 100Mbps to up to 200Mbps - all for no extra charge.
You'll need our latest and best Hub yet to benefit from the speed increase, so we're going to give you one for no extra cost.
We'll send it to you in the post with a QuickStart pack. Then you can set it up at a time that suits you.
You just have to let us know you want the speed upgrade and we'll start the work on delivering it.

call me a sceptic :p but what's the catch double the speed for nowt extra is this new hub dodgy ?any known issues on wow servers for example

Just come out of an 18 month contract where the last 6 months payments were ~£42. for vivid 50 and weekend calls.
Had a web chat and asked to reduce my payments and ended up getting vivid 100 and tv player for £34 pm. with weekend calls.
