Despite obviously being a big part of RHCP's style, it's really nice to hear the incredible music without him and his nonsensical lyrics sometimes. I found this earlier...

You my not be a fan of the band, but you can't deny this is so damn funky. So damn awesome. These three were simply made to play together.

RHCP will always be the less talented, half deaf, poor sounding pastiche of Faith No More and there are moments on BSSM when the effects make the guitar sound seriously out of tune, but in general this (points at video without vocals) is actually so much better than the original.

That's a great find. Love playing along to this album every so often and without the vocals it'll be a little bit better! Was massively into the chilis around mothers milk / BSSM / one hot minute but after that they became too serious and lost the fun edge that appealed to me.
If you ever find this album minus the drums update the thread please|

I don’t listen to RHCP and although I appreciate it to an extent I still don’t insta-dig this. Just not for me I guess!

It’s hard to put a fine point on it but to me, perhaps because I’m listening to through a crappy phone speaker, it sounds like the guitar was recorded (unlike 99% of all guitars) with almost no compression on it - as if you were listening to someone put a guitar through and amp with nothing else. I suppose I’m used to and prefer a more processed, ‘polished’ sound (compression on a guitar signal is absolutely not a bad thing by itself btw - not the same of brick walling a mix!)

Also I agree with @v0n - heavy on the chorus modulation!

Funky, but a little junky! :p

The Real Thing is incredible. I still listen to it on a regular basis. I had the first few albums when I was a nipper but those are long gone. :p

That's fair enough and I can see where you're coming from. This is probably more what you're talking about:

But performing live is where he really shines. Or did, until he vanished from the face of the earth.

They seem to be universally disliked on here but oh well. Can't stop :p

Have you also got a video without the music also :)

:D

Can't argue with the FNM point at all... All hail General Patton!

BSSM still the best RHCP album for me, so it's good to hear this though.
