Hello,
not too much of the modern gaming happening, bc2, and dota2 mainly, tried new wolfenstein and my gpu is performing like grany. I've got a change to get msi lighting 290x for 160£. I know it would be like a good upgrade for granny 270x, as now new ames i can't even go high settings which is sad.
But then you can get AMD 580x for ~250£.
So is it worth it getting 290x?

Thanks.

Personally I'd try get price to 130, if you can the snatch it up, I'd also quiz how it's been used 290x cards are great but also power hungry and run hot like most older amd cards people also hammered them for mining

I'd only entertain really good deals on the R9 2xx series now as not only are they old but the majority have probably been thrashed in mining.

£165 for a 290x is not a really good deal, I'd honestly rather get a 3GB 1060 brand new for a few pennies more if you're on 1080p.

I would not buy a card that only has 3gb of mem today, is the 290x an 8gb one?, did they do a 4 of that card?. But yea any more than 130 and it's really top wack.

290's have 4gb/8gb. 8's will probably be a lot harder to find.

MSI didn't do an 8gb Lightning, A 290x is a decent 1080p card and while it is old the 390x uses the same chip so driver support won't drop off for a while yet, even though it's a Lightning I still wouldn't go over £100. And at the op's £160 I'd be inclined to add a bit more for a Polaris card, I got a 4gb RX 470 Red Devil on the MM for £130 a few weeks ago, while it isn't a bargain due to the new prices and mining I'd look around for something like that as it's a little bit newer and a little less power hungry.

If you can get 40/50 for the 270x then yea it's a good upgrade. You could still probably find the 290x at just over 100 if your lucky but I'm not sure you still can with this mining boom still on. You used to get them for that kind of price anyway.
