S-Line/SE and Audi/DVLA discrepancy

Bought a used Audi A4 from my uncle a few months back, he bought it used from an Audi dealership a few years prior to that. I don't know much about cars and neither does he but to cut a long story short, it's an Audi A4 2.0 S Line Model. Everything is S Line, the exterior/interior/suspension - everything, when you look it up on the Audi website it comes up as an S Line too.

However, when you check it on the DVLA and look at the registration certificate, it's noted as an Audi A4 SE TDI... Surely this is a mistake or am I missing something here? If it is a mistake, how do I go about fixing it?

I was looking to sell the car but I'm now going to have to wait until this is fixed unless I want to lose substantial money on it.

Does it really make a big difference to a buyer (or the value)?

It's an S Line, you can prove as such (just get Audi service to send you something confirming) so I wouldn't even bother sorting it at this point

It does make quite a difference apparently as the SE model is a lot cheaper. My logic is that most buyers will not be comfortable with it being advertised as an S Line but recorded as an SE, hence, to get it to sell I'd have to market it as an SE with an SE price. I've already had one buyer who was going to come down back out and get the hump because of it.

I think there are quite a few cars out there which have started as an SE and have had seats/steering wheel/etc changed to make it appear as though it's an S Line model, even though it isn't. This is where the reluctance from buyers comes from when they see the discrepancy.

I'll try and get something off Audi and use this to corroborate my change of details request with the DVLA.

Just put the vin number into myAudi and that will prove what the model is, there is no need what so ever to advertise a different car to what you are selling. V5's are often incorrect, for example my b9 is stated as being a b8 on my v5, yet clearly it is a my17 model...

One particular buyer was insistent it was a 'fake' S Line and so I'm just wondering how many more are going to be like that due to the incorrect DVLA info.

Yes you need to get it corrected as I would accuse you of the same thing :p i would think you have just put a whole S line bodykit and accessories on it

I thought that's all the S-line is, a trim level? Mirrors, bumpers, a few badges and that's it?

It does if the owner can't easily prove it - but something from Audi with the cars vin and confirmation of model would do it for me.

Even suggest the buyer call Audi themselves to confirm if they're that bothered.

Still think it would be easier to get the logbook sorted, if a seller was telling me to call Audi to confirm the car isn't a knock off I'd probably just move on to the next car in what I suspect is a fairly saturated market of A4 2.0 SLines :p

I've got the Audi proof online, going to try and get something on paper in the meantime and like I mentioned above, I'll use that to support my application to the DVLA to have this fixed. I think there are quite a few fake Audi models on the market, be it fake black editions or fake S Lines.

Based on my experience getting a colour changed last year only a letter from Audi will do. I sent in a letter from the dealer, the finance paperwork, the factory delivery note, photographs of the car and a brochure showing the car only available on one colour which the DVLA rejected. A letter from Ford Dealer assist got it sorted quickly though.

In fairness a mate of mine nearly bought an RRS overfinch, No He nearly bought a RRS with "Some" overfinch goodies on it. He very nearly lost a boat load on that

The DVLA getting something wrong never lol.

They would have just messed up in the registration, they did this on 2000 civic vti-s and just had them down as basic models.

I had a petrol vRS that the dvla had down as a Diesel

I did write to them to them to get them to update as I was more worried and about an insurance company using it as an excuse not to pay out in the even of an accident
