is the i5 4590 any better than the none K chips?

edit: realised i missed a word in the heading , was meant to be about other none K chips.


mean i dont know if one would even suit a 240w psu, but saw one of these for £100 while in town earlier and got me wondering, would this actually better a 4430/4460 that are cheaper? after all that just straight up quads.

Only differences are that 44xx doesn't support VPro or Trusted Execution, the integrated graphics are also marginally faster on 45xx parts (1.15Ghz vs 1.1Ghz).

Unless you need the outright speed of the 4590, then I would go for a 4430 - the extra you pay for the little extra clock speed isn't particularly good value.
4430 3.0Ghz (3.2Ghz Turbo) = £65
4460 3.2Ghz (3.4Ghz Turbo) = £85
4590 3.3Ghz (3.7Ghz Turbo) = £100


Also worth noting, that you aren't going to see a noticable speed boost with any of those vs the i3 2120 you are currently using (as it is 3.3Ghz anyway), unless you are have games/apps that make full use of 4 threads.

Is it to upgarde your i3 2120? Because you could stick something like a 2500k in there for around £40 second hand that would be good upgrade.

These 4*** would be no good for your pc different socket.

Regardless though - my advice still stands, unless you have a specific need due to something that heavily uses 4 threads, then you will see little real world difference moving to those I5's from a I3 4150 (which is 3.5Ghz anyway)

just like the sandy bridge then, just speed and the odd instructions, wasnt sure if the haswell might have improved somewhat to make the quads more worthwhile, but then i am wanting a true quad, hyperthreading is nice, but core count be useful too.

no as Armageus has pointed out, its for my SFF haswell with 4150, i just havent put it in my sig, ive still got the one in my sig, but im replacing it with my SFF for its form factor for now as i want an itx build eventually and haswell better to keep until then.


i think all but anno 2205 i play would benefit from a true 4 core so thats the division, rb6s, mad max, fallout 4(when i get it lol) from memory, okay i still need a 1050ti to game and more ram, but want the best mid range SFF i can make ha.
