Weekend away with the Missus

Hi all

Looking to book a little weekend break at the end of November for my wife's birthday, Any recommendations on places to go, They must fit my needs below please..

- Not expensive as i dont earn mega bucks
- Places to visit/Things to do (Not drinkers)
- Easy to get to by train (We dont drive)
- We always visit London so not London

Bristol, York or Bath.

That said most cities in small doses are good fun. We did Manchester and Birmingham last year just overnight and both were great.
 
Going west on the train...
I'll assume you've done Bath to death?
Bristol - lots of choice for accommodation and eating and things to do, but maybe you're too familiar with that as well?
Cardiff's ok - large enough for accomm. and eatery choice, lots of shopping, if you like that - could be a chance to Xmas shop?
Exeter's ok for a weekend - bit small though
Oxford's not easy to get to and expensive
Cheltenham's nice - again maybe a bit small
Gloucester/Newport/Swansea - I wouldn't recommend any for a weekend
Going south - Salisbury?
Going further afield..actually, why don't you say how far you are prepared to travel - Dis86's recommendations are good, but do you want to travel that far by train?
 
Thanks for all the destinations guys, Been Bath a fair few times and we love it and know it very well now. I was bought up in Bristol and the wife lived with me there for 2 years so not going to choose that...

Honestly with travel time we dont mind, Aslong as it doesnt take up a whole day to get to by train as we like to head straight out and do some tourist bits and bobs... I was definitely considering Cardiff.

My wife said about going to Birmingham as she wants to go to the Bull Ring shopping.. I will have a look at some prices up that way aswell
