Hi,

A few years ago you guys helped me build a computer for general day to day use. I'm now looking to build a game specifically for gaming, Rust in particular. I'm currently getting around 25fps, which is woeful.

Looking to spend around £1,000 on a build - excluding mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Preference would be at least 16gb ram, SSD, Nvidia gfx that's capable of dual screen, i7 (if possible) and a number of fans to keep it cool.

Any help would be much appreciated.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

(includes shipping: £0.00)

With that Asus motherboard + Ryzen CPU bundle you get 2 free games

I would recommend a Coffee-Lake bundle instead of this, but stock shortages have lead to price-gouging which means it's too expensive.

The new Coffee Lake processors are 6 core parts. The new i5 is comparable with the previous gen i7 and performs pretty much neck and neck. I'd definitely recommend the i5 8400 for a gaming build and use the money saved for a better graphics card.

You always want to get the best graphics card you can afford and build a system around that with parts that compliment it.

If you really wanted Intel (and within budget):

If you waited until January, then the Intel CPU + motherboard bundle would cost around £50 less.

Also, the RX 580 is quite a bit slower than the GTX 1070. You would be at ~£1130 if you got a 1070 instead.

I think I prefer this one. Can anybody else better this?

You could also replace that Western Digital SSD with a Samsung 250GB EVO 850 (for ~£85) as you get a free copy of Assasins Creed: Origins. Either keep or sell the game for ~£30.

Unfortunately Overclockers aren't participating in this promotion (http://www.samsung.com/uk/offer/assassinscreedorigin/) so you'll have to look elsewhere.

The VEGA 56 is definitely worth the £10 extra over the GTX 1070 for performance in most games. Just be aware that due to the cooler design of that card, it will run hot and loud.

Mrs is having current comp, bud.

Are AMD better than Intel?
The Ryzen 1600, particularly at the moment, is a great CPU for price/performance. It performs similarly to the i5-8400, but costs almost £50 less. It also comes with 3 free games if you buy certain ASUS motherboards.

At the top end, the best Intel CPU (i7 8700k) is often much better than the top AMD CPU for gaming. For multi-tasking and productivity it isn't quite so clear-cut though.

Any deals which effect this spec?
Edit: Ignore that - just purchased. Ended upgrading the processor to
AMD Ryzen 5 Six Core 1600X 4.00GHz (Socket AM4) Processor which was an extra 10/20 give or take.

EDIT: This doesn't come with a cooler - DOH!! Any cooler recommendations?
Thank you for your help :D

For a bit of overclocking:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £34.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

Says it comes with an AM4 mount. Would spend more if you were doing heavy overclocking. I don't know which case you settled on, so would need to ensure it fits.
