Comments made by Boris Johnson could potentially double the sentence of a British-Iranian woman jailed in Iran.

The man is an embarrassment and needs to be removed from office.

I hope this doesn’t lead to a longer sentence for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

Is anyone actually surprised by this, the man is a bumbling buffoon and a twisted form of comic relief for a morally corrupt government.

People say he's likeable etc but he's just as bad as the maybot, camermoron and that cocaine addled mess Osborne was.

As another poster noted. Boris, like Trump, is not a buffoon it's a character that he creates to disarm people. It frustrates me that people fall for this act and find it endearing.

The British public need to call this behaviour out and get rid of them from office. We want proper professionals representing us on the world stage, not these egotistical duplicitous charlatans.

Thing is she was probably teaching people journalism and not just on her jollies. This is the problem here, not Boris.

Assuming it is the truth, Boris has built a career of off lying convincingly, so people have a right to be annoyed that he couldn't manage it on this occasion.

As Foreign Secretary, surely he has a responsibility to protect British citizens (or at least, not make things worse for them)?

I don't know why people continuously claim that he's super intelligent and witty, exactly what has achieved that's so notable other than be in politics? It's not really leading edge stuff, just talk ******** and don't get fired...

I mean, he's been the Major of London and is currently the Foreign Secretary, these are fairly notable achievements for most people.

Someone's job title isn't really an achievement, what has he delivered? what things has he done that make a difference? that actually satisfy any criteria for being labeled in any way "super clever"

Do you genuinely believe she was "trying to overthrow the government"?

Regardless, one of the Foreign Office's core responsibilities is "supporting British nationals around the world".

The FO is supposed to do everything it can to help British citizens in legal difficulty, not exacerbate the situation.

If a UK citizen is charged with drug smuggling, it's not usually the FO's position to say "yep, they're guilty as hell, give them the death sentence."

Either Boris was ignorant of the case, ignorant of the consequences of his comments or they were deliberate (in which case they backfired). None of these three scenarios is particularly befitting of a competent Foreign Secretary.
