Boris Johnson puts his foot in it again

Thigh he did good job running London did he not?

Not really, crime in London skyrocketed (although not entirely his fault, certainly under his watch) public transport and the tube has gotten worse (strikes, etc) that stupid garden bridge thing, the emirates air line that goes to the middle of nowhere, even Boris bikes were Ken Livingstone's idea...

Nazanin and her family are local to us and the unfolding story has been absolutely heart-breaking. The dad can’t even see his own child because the child is now stuck with grandparents in Iran and he risks arrest if he enters the country. The British government have shown no willingness to help and now we have them actively harming a British national facing injustice abroad.

What Boris Johnson has done is either utterly incompetent or utterly, utterly evil.

Thigh he did good job running London did he not?

No, he nearly bankrupted the city with his vanity projects. We’re thankful that he eventually lost interest in being mayor towards the end.

Thing is she was probably teaching people journalism and not just on her jollies. This is the problem here, not Boris.

Thomas Reuters have made it clear that she’s not a journalist, has no training in journalism and was not over there to teach journalism.

Is it really that hard to believe that she wanted her daughter to meet the grandparents?

For some people the answer seems to be yes, when the alternative is to admit that their clay footed hero (usually Boris or Trump) is in the wrong.

Boris is clearly not stupid but he's not as smart as he believes he is. If he was, he'd be Prime Minister now instead of Theresa May.

He's the kid in school who thought that he was so smart that he got wing every exam without doing any homework.

Being PM right now is a poisoned chalice.

Do you genuinely believe she was "trying to overthrow the government"?

Regardless, one of the Foreign Office's core responsibilities is "supporting British nationals around the world".

The FO is supposed to do everything it can to help British citizens in legal difficulty, not exacerbate the situation.

If a UK citizen is charged with drug smuggling, it's not usually the FO's position to say "yep, they're guilty as hell, give them the death sentence."

Either Boris was ignorant of the case, ignorant of the consequences of his comments or they were deliberate (in which case they backfired). None of these three scenarios is particularly befitting of a competent Foreign Secretary.

The problem some posters here have is bold part of the following. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

The people who don’t have a problem with Boris blurting out something completely adverse to a UK citizen’s interests for no reason are as stupid as he pretends to be. A Foreign Secretary who cannot choose his words is a huge liability.

A good proportion of us Brits happen to like Boris.

In the immortal words of Sam Goldwyn, include me out.
If he actually has a razor sharp political mind, and the bumbling idiot schtick is just an act, then he not
only deserves an Oscar, he should have his palm prints in cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

He's very knowledgeable, but I don't think he's all that intelligent. I don't know quite how to put it, but he seems to be some sort of very clever idiot.

Trump is just an idiot. There's nothing intelligent about him. The two aren't comparable.

You trying to say a genius wouldn't say this?

The U.S. president said he could not understand why a country of samurai warriors did not shoot down the missiles, the sources said.

I think it's educated vs. intelligent. Like he could speak to you in Latin but you wonder how he manages to use a toilet without breaking something.

I think it's an act or persona he's developed over the years - the affable blonde haired bloke. But behind the scenes he's very different.

Which strikes me as only so much speculation, given that by definition we don't see him behind the scenes. All we see is him being just a bit haphazard and bumbling. What else is there to go on?

Well yeah it's completely speculation.

What makes you see him as a clever idiot?

Is he really a brunette?

That would be the most sickening twist of all
