De-lid and Liquid Metal Question

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the liquid metal on my delidded 7700K.

Managed to bag one of the Delid-Die-Mate 2 on OCUK last Thursday and also purchased the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid Metal Thermal Paste.

To cut a long story short, the delid went without issues and has exceeded my expectations with the temp drops i now have but i have a slight concern that any excess liquid metal could drip within the cpu?

I applied to both the die and the lid for better contact and had a slight pool on each, just wondering if any excess would be likely to drip?

Possibly worrying for nothing really but cant find an answer anywhere.

Just for a bit of reference the temps i now have, i had a Cam warning that my cpu had exceeded 81c whilst playing Assassins Creed Origins the other day, now my temps whilst playing Origins are about the 57c mark, for those who dont know, there appears to be an issue with Origins that causes 100% cpu usage which has been linked to the doubling up of copy protection from Ubisoft.
Also, 20 minute prime test earlier hit 60c once and hovered around the 58/59c mark.

Overall, very happy i took the plunge to delid.

You don't need to do both the die and IHS. Just the die will do the job fine. This is all I have applied liquid metal to on both cpu's I have delidded and I have had excellent temps drops. You can apply a layer of nail varnish to the tiny transistors on the die to protect them from the liquid metal.

Thanks pastymuncher.

I took the IHS off again and there was way too much liquid metal. It had spilled off the die but luckily not onto the transistors.

Cleaned it all up and just applied a very thin layer to the die.

After a 20 minute stress test the cpu didnt go above 57c so very happy.

Actually your better to apply thin layer to both we did afew thousand with different ways and this is the best way.

Hey 8 pack,

Must admit, wasn't too happy with the results after just applying to the die so i have since re applied to both die and IHS again but a thinner layer to each, also applied a very thin layer of clear nail polish to the transistors closest to the die.

Think ill leave it there now as i get better results when using more liquid metal.

Also, never quite sure if my X62 block is sitting flat and central as there's quite a bit of movement before its screwed tight, any thoughts or should this not make any difference?

Man your taking this too seriously. Just have fun using your PC. I am sure it's fine now. Temps are down so who cares about the odd degree...
