Xbox One X

just got an email from DPD looks like my xbox x scorpio is coming tomorrow via DPD first time amazon have used them in my area usually its amazon in house delivery service. one day late isn't so bad

doubt i will go with Amazon for the next big launch lesson learnt.

I've gone from getting my Scorpion from game one day early to one day late! Despite requesting to pick it up from DPD depot tonight after work they've put it out on the van anyway even though they have no intention of attempting delivery, I was told on chat I won't be able to collect till tomorrow :(

I've found DPD to be brilliant but why they've sent it out not to attempt delivery baffles me!

If you went to the depo after the delivery van has returned I'd imagine they would let you have it. They did when I missed a delivery once.

My x has arrived all plugged in and downloading day 1 update .. 4tb drive plugged in and gonna set a load of games to download while I go back to work .. glad I have 300mb broadband!!!

I've spent a good few hours with it now (Scorpio edition).

Here's a few of my first impressions:

1) It's small and quiet, it's actually a few mm's bigger that the PS4 Pro but looks smaller next to it
2) The controller that it came with felt so cheap, I wouldn't even consider using that for any period
3) Setup was really simple, just plugged in the external drive and signed in that's, it all working
4) The dash board doesn't look very sharp, it's OK but not 4K sharp (maybe it's just the enlarged icons)

Games I've tried so far:

Assassins Creed Origins: Much better than the demo I tried on the X. It looks nice in 4K with nice lighting etc. There are occasions though there seems to be something weird with the the resolution scaling ie things close look 4K sharp but things further away look quite low res.
Halo 5: Probably the best looking so far although it does not support HDR :( but it does look good and plays well
GOW 4: Looks much better than the standard Xbone, seems to run smooth from the brief time I played. However it still looks dated imo with not the best textures etc
Forza 7: This looks really good in 4K/HDR and runs smooth. Probably best example is night/evening races when it's raining (although the rain on the windshield is not that realistic)
Shadow of War: Looks OK but nothing special
Tomb Raider: Looks good, 4K and graphically similar to the PS4 Pro but the X version has HDR which is noticeable in the opening chapter compared to the Pro (I have them both running at the same time) so richer colours and more contrast/sun flare looking into the sun
Quantum Break: Looks/plays OK but feels like an enhanced version of a really old title
Titanfall 2: Looks OK but I've seen it on the PS4 Pro which looked as good if not better
Forza Horizon 3: I thought this was X enhanced but it's not yet so disappointing (if it is you'd never know)

From a games point I'm not sure what to say, it needed something to be released that would give the WOW factor. Unfortunately there isn't and although things look better compared to the standard Xbone there is nothing that sets it apart from the PS4 Pro. It's all very well putting the older games on and thinking that looks so much better but do I really want to play them again now.. not really (apart from maybe Halo)..

So I think it's a good console, certainly a step up from the Xbox One and has potential. Would I recommend one instead of the PS4 Pro, No, there just isn't the games for the Xbox at the moment and no clear increase in power from the titles that are out now (compared to pro). I would recommend it as an upgrade for the Xbox One though, it is a big jump or if you want a new shiny toy or don't have a gaming PC. Hopefully MS will get their act together and release some games that show what it can do and I'd look forward to playing them.

I cancelled my pre-order with Amazon in the end. As I've got a good gaming PC and a One S that's only about 8 months old, I decided to stick with the One S for the time being.

I'm sure I will cave in and buy one eventually.

@Jase the dashboard is running in 1080p. MS gave the extra 1GB they were going to use for the 4K dash to the developers for games and the Forza Horizon 3 patch is not coming until January 2018.

OK probably best have the memory for the games, it's not that you spend much time on the dash. The Dash must be upscaled to 4K which would explain why it doesn't look as sharp, no problem though.

I'm kinda glad mine is coming the same day as Star Wars: Battlefront II

It'll give me something new to play that takes advantage of the hardware.

Otherwise I think I'd be disappointed :D

It might take time. I think they are rolling out rather than being available to everyone at once.
Maybe someone else can clarify?

EDIT: oh well, none for Fallout 4
