Xbox One X

So - those of you who have a pro and an X - does the X bring an extra level of awesomeness or is it pretty much same as the Pro? Perhaps too early to tell?

I have recently been given a half decent 4k TV and I have the wifes permission (kind of :p ) to upgrade in January and I really fancy an X not least as my brother games on the xbox platform. I also have a hankering for some Halo and Gears. But i have around 150 ps4 titles in my collection. Probably two thirds of which are premium titles (ie not ps+ indie games that nobody ever plays). There hasnt really been much in terms of major releases in the last couple of years that I havent added to my digital collection.

So I have a tricky decision. Leave my PS4 as is and just get exclusives then buy an X and start again with a selection of must buy games and then pick up new releases as needed.

Or

Ps4 pro and keep it all playstation (maybe get VR down the line too).

Hmmm decisions decisions.

OK if this is a choice of X instead of Pro then 100% keep the Pro. If you can afford both the X is good as it will give you access to the MS exclusives (assuming you haven't got a gaming PC, if you do then again don't get an X).

I have both the X and the Pro however at the moment the Xbox just doesn't have the games for it and they haven't really announced that great of a line up.

The X does not at this stage give any extra level of awesomeness. Yesterday I did a side by side comparison of Tomb Raider on the Pro and the X, the X was slightly better but only because it has HDR and it would be difficult to tell otherwise.

Tonight my mate visited with his copy of Assassins Creed so again we could do a side by side comparison... this is based purely on looking and playing both but there was very little difference, barely any and had to look hard. We both agreed that the X may have the edge but we had to really search for it, I think we said if the X version was a 9 the Pro would be an 8.9. So if you wasn't doing a side by side you wouldn't know.

The interesting thing is if it wasn't for Assassins Creed (which I could have played weeks ago on the Pro) I would probably be bored of the X by now. You may be in a different position as you haven't played the games but what is available for the X on release I've already played and better graphics will not mean I want to play them again.

After playing Forza 7 tonight we played GT Sport, we could not say that Forza looked any better in fact presentation wise I think that GTS is better, they both play very differently though so difficult to compare games.. if an non gamer were to see them I think they'd pick GTS as the better looking game.

Also interesting that you mention VR, that is an awesome bit of kit and there is a Skyrim pack out this month with the new version of the VR. I think with that the Playstation is just the better platform and that is what you want if you're into games and not pixel peeping.

I went to pick mine up on Tuesday morning and it turns out I was 2nd in line to pre-order so I got 1 of the 4 Scorpio editions that came in stock. Its a pretty sexy bit of hardware but god-damn is it heavy! If we ever get an intruder I will reach for the XB1X to hit them with.

Should be Xbox' selling point..."Xbox one X, you can kill a man with it".

I'm genuinelly frustrated at the software lineup. The hardware is clearly awesome, but I cannot make the jump when all the games I want to play are not available for it. I don't play some games on the Pro because it makes it so bloody loud.

Are there any plans for a VR setup?

Thats been my problem with the PS4. The thing sounds like a hairdrier. The XB1 got stick for being huge but man,was that thing whisper quiet.

The Xbox does not have enough decent exclusives to warrant switching platforms being as invested as you are in Playstation.

@BuffetSlayer I would probably just go PS4 pro in that instance unless money is no option. Especially if you also have a gaming PC as any exclusives will also be on that. I find myself wanting an X but then I think rationally that I probably wouldn't play it much at all.

Cheers guys. I do have a gaming pc but I rarely use it now. Still capable of a respectable performance even though its something like 4 years old. I specced it high when I built it. In fact with a gpu upgrade it would be top notch (currently running an R9 290).

Probably going to see if I can get a pro/VR bundle deal somewhere.

Having said that, the X is a sleek bit of kit and even though all logic says stay playstation, a part of me still fancies something different. Im half tempted just for the pads. Xbox pads are so much better than playstation ones! :p

Anyone know what VR the X will run? MS own brand or a vive / occulus derivative?

Would be cool if it supported the rift / vive.

I heard an interview with Phil Spencer saying they are not really thinking about VR so AFAIK, they have not commited to any one brand yet. He said the second generation of headsets may see where MS' cards fall.

I'll take quietness over size any day. I stopped playing NMS at 4k due to the noise, really kills the immersion and that was with my sound up more than was comfortable

What games do you want, Noxia?

Well I like my JRPGs and niche titles so things like Tales Of series, Disgaea, Nier. I love the Yakuza series, and I have a lot of indie games too but they are generally on both.

My set-up is not exactly comparable to most on this forum as I'm running an X and a Pro on a 32' LG 1080p ( Try not to laugh). Gave Forza 7 a go tonight and compared to my S it ran so much better, no slow down, great reflection effects and buttery smooth certainly an improvement on an already great game and all the while remaining quiet with no noticeable racket unlike the Pro which likes to let you know it's working hard. Just need some more exclusives to really make it worthwhile.

Well after pulling my hair out for 2 days I have finally give up and returning my Xbox Scorpio edition due to constant installation stopped error with all my games. Cannot for life of be get it to work and been onto Microsoft support who blame my internet provide for not opening ports. God knows what that has to do with installing a game off disc even when not connected to internet. Don’t think I will get a replacement Scorpio now. Have to settle for a standard model

Same thing was happening with mine, thought it was because I was transfering the games over wi-fi from my old one s.

Downloading the games over Xbox seem to download and install ok

Played through gears 4 with the wife today. Bought it in the sale this time last year but could barely get it connected from the PC.
Having played on pc wth a 1080 and now on the one x I’d be hard pushed to tell the difference.

Once she called it a night I spent an hour setting up my wheel on the Xbox, got it dialled in how I like it now (well 90% there anyway) so will play some more of that later.

Quantum break isn’t bad either need to finish that off quickly cause it’s currently using up nearly 180gb of disk space!

One that surprised me was path of exile. Much sharper and better looking and it was a small patch.

Oh and shadow of war looks great but I’m not 100% that one keeps up with a maxed pc. Even if it’s not it’s so close it’s hard to tell

How do you download them without purchasing the digital only copy. Or did you give up on disc copies and go digital only due to error.

Try setting the console to offline, no Internet and see if games install from disc
Already tried offline install still get same stoppage. Well requested return of it which will need to be posted back. Won’t get replacement from amazon now due to no stock of the Scorpio left . Ordered new one from John Lewis collect on Friday. If that has same issue then it must be something elsewhere outside the consoles itself causing it to fail. Won’t post my Scorpio back till Saturday in case it’s does happened to be an issue outside the console which could get fixed. once I have 2nd one to test beside it. Still don’t get why Microsoft were trying to say my internet provider needed to open some ports for the console to access. No issues with the Xbox S like this. Plus can connect to Xbox live fine.

Any way to make downloads from Xbox Live more stable? My speeds constantly fluctuate, all ports are open and NAT is open. Or maybe it’s because the servers are taking a hammering at the moment?

All the ones I had a problem with were digital versions.

The one physical version i had Deus ex did the same but I found it was because my host one s kept shutting down after awhile that it would **** up the transfer.

So you tried a hard reset and still you get the install stopped error when trying to install off disc?

Poor choice of using Assassins Creed considering it’s not a 4K game with 4K textures.
