OK so I'm seriously considering one of these as my next car, to replace my BMW 630i Convertible, which I've loved over the last 3 years.

Something like below -

Looking at red or orange, more than likely red due to shortage of orange. Convertible and auto are a must, any other must have options on these?

The main point though, unfortunately, these are still way over my budget (<£30k). What are peoples thoughts on depreciation on these? How long until we see them drop further? I've got a feeling there are quite a few people waiting for these to drop in to the £25-£30k bracket!

Any owners on the forums? What are they like to live with day to day? From all the research I've done so far it's all positive :)

What do you use your 6 for? Ive tried both the cab and coupe and altho the coupe could be used for weekend trips the cab was pretty much days out only. You'd really struggle to get anything in It for more than that.

It's definitely a cruiser not a sports car so may be similar to your 6 in that regard, but the gearbox isnt amazing and found it could be slow to react at times.

It's my daily, do 45 miles a day (total) commute which can be 100% M4 or 50% M4 / 50 % A roads depending on what route I take. Quite often take the more scenic route in the summer with the roof down. Also quite often go for a drive on weekends or use it for weekends away, driving is a big hobby of mine but sometimes I will go weeks where by the car is used just for commuting so it needs to be an all rounder. No kids or dogs, so boot space and 2 seats aren't a problem.

My 6 is a manual, keen to go auto on my next car as never had one before and it would definitely suit the commute more. Will need to book a test drive and try the car / gearbox for myself.

I've got £10k to put down and only owe £5k on the 6, so a few more £ towards deposit there but I want to keep monthly payments below £350 which is going to mean <£30k purchase price. What's everyone's thoughts on the depreciation over the next 1-3 years on these?

Modern Jag prices only go one way which is down!

The Jag XK would be more comparable to the 6 series and a whole lot cheaper.

Can you actually get a V6S F type for less than £30k?

If you’re dead set on a convertible Jag then you’re probably stuck with the XK (no bad thing for commuting).

However if you don’t mind the marque so much then £30k gets you a whole lot of interesting sports car. Boxster, 911, BMW M3, Z4 etc etc.

Can't get them for under £30k yet which is why I'm interested in people's thoughts on depreciation over the next 1-3 years :) I've just spent £1700 on a new clutch, DMF, service and 2 rear tyres on the 6 so I'm not in any rush to move on. Brakes and front tyres will be done after Christmas then all the big expenses are out the way so should be a) easy to sell or b) relatively cheap to keep running until the F types drop. I've had a few BMW's now and fancy a change, was considering an M but these Jags have really caught my eye. Other options would be Boxster or 911 as you say. There's just something about the F Type convertible in Red/Orange though!

I totally love the way the F type looks, but the good news is that despite their great looks they’ll end up depreciating just like every other Jag. There are loads around too so it’ll just be a matter of time. It’s pretty amazing how much F type you can get for the cash considering the price of an equally powerful 911 of a similar age.

Hopefully! I'm going to keep a keen eye on the price, for <£30k they are a lot of car for the money especially when you compare them to a 911 as you say.

right then

depreciation, I have had mine 18 months and dropped by about £8k based on the one you are looking at, that's about 12-15% a year which is very low, I would expect £30k by mid/late 2019

to live with, well 24mpg average, awesome car, I do 18-20k a year in mine

Do not have one without warranty, mine has probably had around £3k of warranty work in that time and my XKR was much worse

consumables are reasonably priced, £780 for a set of Pzeros, pads all round 300 inc labour

re extras, for me essentials are 20 inch wheels (though I'm not a fan of the carbon blades on that one) , performance seats are a must

I also have, alcantara steering wheel, dual zone climate, keyless entry, carbon fibre pack, dual zone climate, meridian sound, reversing camera, all these are nice but not essential

Thanks Rotty. 24mpg average is really good, I get 26-27mpg now so fuel will only be an extra £30 per month. Consumables don't sound too pricey, I'm paying similar now. I'll look in to warranty's, do Jaguar do a similar scheme to BMW? I've never had one but have put away £100 a month with the BMW, it's not far off covered all servicing and tyres.

Late 2019 would probably be when I could afford to change over and is also when I finish paying the finance on the 6, which would give me even more of a despot. If they are ~£30k by then that would be perfect. It probably makes sense me keeping my car for the next 2 years really. Plenty of time to arrange a test drive :)

I agree in regards to the wheels, 20" would be my preference but not so keen on the carbon either. Would love the performance seats but not sure how many have got them as they were >£2k option I believe? All the other options sound great too, hopefully there will be a few well speced ones to chose from once the prices have dropped a bit more.

the one you linked has the performance seats, the carbon wheels don't look good but the other bits (mirrors, roll hoops, bonnet and side vents) do though they are rare as the set was over £3k

you can extend warranty up to 100k miles on renewal, authorised cars come with 2 years, I think if you buy one out of warranty you have to have an inspection, last I heard it was £700 a year inc breakdown with no excess

2 years away?!

Crikey its a bit like asking what to have for dinner in 4 months time..

:D It may be sooner but having looked at the prices and worked out the figures in a bit more detail, 2 years will probably be the sweet spot to change over.

Yeah just noticed it has the seats, hopefully there will be a few about with decent options at the time. Cheers for the info on warranty, will keep that in mind. Are you keeping yours in warranty for the duration of the ownership?

Most definitely, the XKR needed a new gearbox which would have been 5-6k :p
