Hi all, merry christmas preparations and all that jazz,
I already have a real tree in the front garden which we used last year, but the amount of needles on the floor was monumental...

So I'm looking for a good looking fake tree, I have looked on Argos, M&S, Ama(am I allowed to say that name?), ebay, however the results I get is that some of them have nice branches, but then 60-70% is cheap quality branches, probably to make money back... for example I bought this tree and have it here next to me, and the "quality" branches, are much better than the tacky ones, unfortunately there is an abundance of argos grade quality (of course)... I'm scouring the webs and finding this seems to be common place? is there anywhere that delivers a good fake tree with all quality branches instead of half tack, half meh?

I managed to offload my very glittery Xmas tree to a local group and picked up a much more grown up one from John Lewis which should last me out...

Yeh local garden centres. I’m not far from chessington and the garden centre there has some unbelievable fake trees. In fact I was looking at one an hour ago that looked incredibly real. £350 for an 8 ft tree however.......

Actually, their entire Christmas range is massive - must be a huge earner for them and evidently quite the outing for families

You need to be spending a good £350-£500 minimum for a decent 6 foot to 8 foot tree that actually looks the part. Plenty of people try to convince themselves and others that under this budget gets close but it really doesn't.

Our real tree didn't drop one needle last year. It sits in a pot outside rest of the year. Each year it gets a little bigger. Only cost 30 quid (I think)

It's not one of the cheap flimsy looking ones. I forget the species but it's a substantial looking tree. So much nicer than a fake

The thing is once, you have the dimmed winter lights in the room, the lights on the tree, then the decorations and tinsel, the amount of actual tree you can see is minimal, so I've never seen the point in spending loads on a fake one. £10 I think from Tesco last time round, then I can bin it if I want once Christmas finishes rather than finding somewhere to store it.

Spend the money on a decent tree then go easy with the decorations and lights and it looks 10s better.

It's personal but I also think it looks much less tactastic with less. I don't even like tinsel!

Exactly, we have some nice winter themed silk / real decorations like flowers, pine cones with bows etc on our main tree but definately no tinsel.

The kid's trees in their own rooms are a slightly different matter but that's up to them and they like to go full on.

Ours has a a set of lights and some random nic naks on it. But it looks more like a decorated tree than a pile of decorations.

Of course it's topped with the traditional Christian Christmas dragon! :D

Ha, I remember being a kid and.. More lights the better!
