Hi People, :)

Haven't looked at parts for a long time but it's been 5 years and the PC needs an upgrade. This is for gaming.

I currently have an old pc that I can / want to salvage the following parts from I think, you tell me if you recommend:

Corsair GS800 PSU (Seems like it works fine)
SSD 128GB
BENQ XL2420T Monitor
2TB HARD DRIVE (I can just format this)

I got the free windows 10 upgrade with this PC, but I'm guessing I'll need to buy a new one. Also everyone says look around online I noticed, is there some page online that sells licenses for £20 that no one dare talk about?

Lastly I really like the
NZXT CA-S340W-B3 High Performance Gaming Case
Coupled with the
NZXT RL-KRX62-01 280 mm Kraken Series All-in-One Liquid Cooler

If you guys can advise me a great build work the above in mind, also do you think I should upgrade the monitor so a £1300 build with£400 monitor for example?

Thanks for your help guys!
:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::eek:

Think I need advice on how to write a captivating post first actually :p
If you want to spend all £1700 on the PC:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,707.62
(includes shipping: £14.70)

Or PC + monitor for £1700:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,725.78
(includes shipping: £15.90)

Or just the PC for £1500:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,491.85
(includes shipping: £0.00)

On this site, the CPU cooler really isn't a great price. You could get a better motherboard if you got:

Total: £129.89
(includes shipping: £9.90)

This performs very similar to the X62.

Also, the GPU can be found for £40 cheaper elsewhere.

Or the PC + monitor for £1500 (use LG100 code at checkout for £100 monitor discount)

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,600.85
(includes shipping: £0.00)

That reference VEGA 56 isn't a great price, and after-market cards should be releasing soon, but, you get an ultra-wide 144hz FreeSync monitor and the PC for £1500.

Spousal approval is going to be important here, so I suggest you go instead for a case that looks small and cute i.e. ITX. That's a 120 Hz monitor you have there so you don't need a new one for gaming unless you want a higher resolution. I also suggest you refresh your PSU.

Coming in well under budget:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,092.45
(includes shipping: £12.60)

You might want a better CPU cooler - I'll leave that to others to recommend - and a modular PSU and additional case fans.

So all you really need is a case, cpu/mobo/ram, cooler and a gpu? For gaming you don't really need more than 128GB on the boot drive and 2TB is a lot of storage. Plus your current PSU looks fine.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,545.55
(includes shipping: £12.60)

6 core i7 + 1080ti and it'll shred any games you chuck at it on ultra for 144fps at 1080p. Also gives you the case and cooler you want, and the option to get a bigger monitor down the road.

If you want a bigger monitor now, you could sacrifice the i7 for a Ryzen 5 and the 1080ti for Vega 64 and include a 1440p 144hz monitor with Freesync:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,409.00
(includes shipping: £14.10)

Or if you go £1700, get the 1080ti and a 1440p 144hz Gsync monitor:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,705.00
(includes shipping: £14.10)

Option 3 would be my choice if you can squeeze the extra £200 out as it'll last you longer.

Thank you guys for taking the time, all really good suggestions, you've helped a lot.

Think I'm going for your suggestion AiiR for the following;

My basket at overclockers uk:

Total: £1,545.55
(includes shipping: £12.60)

It looks like the most future proofed of all the suggestions and a damn beefy rig. Although not included in your spec was the water cooler for another £100-£140, was there any reason you left this out?

My current monitor is still half decent for now with 120htz so pretty smooth. I'll upgrade this in the new year.

With cooler and windows 10 I'm looking at another £240 bringing the total to £1800 nearly though (gulp).... I'll hide from the Mrs!

Oops forgot to add it! Do what I do and use man maths, by spending more now you're actually spending less in the long run as you won't need to upgrade it so soon. ;)

So swap out the memory for...

Team Group Dark Pro "8Pack Edition" 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C14 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/ ... Another £50 ..... Creeping towards the 2marker, can I justify that?!

Also guys, I take it (maybe wrongly) that better prices can be found on Amazon right, or are we not allowed to mention other merchants? Currently on a train that isn't going anywhere because someone jumped infront of the train in front #Hitchen

No, not allowed to talk about competitors. That said, check prices just to be sure. OCUK are good but can sometimes be quite a bit more expensive.

If you can afford it, get the faster RAM. All 6th/7th and 8th gen Intel chips love fast RAM.
