It's that time of the year again where we commit to another year of paying someone else's mortgage, and the agents want to charge us £250 to change the date on last year's contract and send it to us. Last year we just ignored them and they shut up eventually, is this still the case?

Bottom feeding scum trying it on as usual.

Just told ours wanted to go onto rolli contract. No fee, quick get out

Been a while since I rented but contracts automatically go to monthly rolling at end.

They can gives you 2 months notice to leave after that.

Bottom feeding scum. Tell they you are going with rolling tenancy or just ignore them. They'll soon get the message.

90 days notice but can be 42 days under certain circumstances.

edit: sorry i think thats for a different country! It does seem to be 2 months, although i did read a while ago that for long term tenants it can be 3 months

Yes, just don't pay anything to 'renew'. Downside is the landlord can give you 2 months notice to leave but they are very, very unlikely to do that if you've been a good tenant for 2 years.

@OP if you're in the same rental now and you already ignored last year's attempt to get money out of you then you are already on a 'rolling periodic tenancy' so tell the letting agent to do one if they contact you again.

My letting agency wanted £80 or something. I told them that was unreasonable for a printout with the date changed and they backed down.

Still didn't stop our landlord's letting agents trying to invoice us £66 to go onto a rolling tenancy :D
