Fair enough, I don't know enough about the current climate in America to comment. I'm not really old enough to be using this phrase yet but time used to be that people would find direction and inspiration from other cultures. I'm concerned that this whole cultural appropriation thing stiffles humanities ability to learn from it's own diversity. It's a bit ironic that a movement born out of the desire to protect minorities and to aid acceptance has probably fed their isolation.

People used to. And in healthy societies they still do. We should be free to look at any culture and decide for ourselves that something about it is positive and do that. Sadly you are right in everything you say. This is happening and it is stifling.

I think an illustration of what it is like in many US universities at this point will make my point better than one of my long-winded posts.

I couldn't find a longer video that didn't have a lot of commentary splashed over it. She intercepted him and at one point said she was going to get some scissors and cut off his hair. Whilst this is an example that went viral, the value system that fostered it is almost omnipresent in US universities and there are countless examples that happen daily but are less dramatic.

Oh, for additional twist, the Ancient Egyptians were not Black.

But I do see the black women was wearing western clothing. So surely by her very own logic, that is appropriation as well? :P

Some. And depending on what time period. But the native population was kind of like the berbers. Clearly not Caucasian but equally not Black. Nerfertiti was Black but also the fact that she was an exception is part of her fame.

Look at her face when she's engaging him, I've seen that look before - when I was bullied as a kid. This isn't a 'cultural appropriation' issue, it's a bully using that as an excuse to pick on someone smaller than her.
