The overclocked 1070Ti vs 1080 argument

I have read/watched reviews the 1070TI oc'd gets to 1-2% the performance of a 1080. Assuming I guess you get a card that overclocks half decently.

Assuming that IS the case, what at this point does the 1080 offer over the 1070 Ti. Will it for example do better at higher resolution(s)?

Of course the 1080 will overclock too, but diminishing returns starts to kick in, fundamentally the gap between the two GPUs will not be THAT big.

My plan would be to watercool either card in any case. I am STILL on the fench about my GPU upgrade path haha.
I may go to 3440x1440 within the next six months too.

The cost difference is there at the basic end of the market, I can have a WC'd 1070Ti for ~£520.

Doing the same thing to a 1080 will be more like £570

An interesting card. My only thoughts were re selling a stand alone card and block will be easier most likely than a watercooled card even if there is less faff involved.

It also DOES have the advantage of coming with it's own backplate. Thanks for recommendation.

They actually have more in common with the GTX 1070, the same memory but with more active cores.

Both the 1070 and 1070 Ti use GDDR5, what is interesting is how close the Ti gets to the 1080 which uses GDDR5X.

Oh just quickly then, I only found out today that 1080's got a memory upgrade mid cycle. I am not sure if this is to GDDR5X or a clock speed increase. Can anyone confirm and how can I ensure i'm getting the most up to date GPU too?

Be careful when looking at the 1080s as the new and old cards often look exactly the same, only the memory speed has changed.

All 1080s have GDDR5X but only the newer ones run 11gbs stock.

You need a very good chip to hold 2100mhz even under water on the core.

depends on the price really some of the 1080's come with a game and are the same price as a 1070ti.

Unless they start including games with 1070ti I would go for 1080. That's what I done anyway.

FE/REF card to card what is the price difference between these? I'd be looking for it to go in a small ITX case so the FE version is preferable.

When I did some reason in to the difference between the 10 and 11Gbps cards the performance difference was negligible.

Yes, you should be able to but of course the 11Gbps cards should clock close to 12.

I'd definitely get the new card because i've seen some of the newer 11Gbps cards priced the same or even cheaper than the older models.
