BTTV Cancellation disables Youview box?

I have a month left on my contract and I just rang to knock my full package down as I don't watch sport or any of the other crap channels.

The guy on the phone said if I remove my TV Package then I will lose the ability to record even Freeview channels? I queried this because it says nothing about me paying for the ability to record just to watch the IPTV channels.

Does anyone work for BT or have cancelled BTTV confirm/deny?

I thought so. The whole point of Youview was to have an independent platform. BT doesn't control it.

Haven't Sky always done the same - i.e. if you cancel Sky the box will still show the FTA channels but all recording/playback functionality is disabled.

Yes but Sky they tell you that you are paying for the ability to record. It doesnt say that on BT site. Sky control their own network, BT don't control Youview.

do you actually own the equipment or is it just leased from BT? I know with Virgin, they own it so suppose could do what they like.

Our YouView box worked as normal post leaving BT.

Same with my nan and parents, they’ve both kept the boxes and they worked as before minus the IPTV channels. My nan even switched ISP to Sky
