Makeup free selfies

This app doesn't remove make up it just makes people uglier by heavily decreasing the density of their eyelashes, eyebrows and increasing the density of skin irregularities.

But hey, why miss an opportunity to get outraged about people getting outraged?
I know it's outrageous!

So you mean it shows the things make up is there to cover then?

Also, pretty sure this isn't sexists since it works on blokes, thems, theys, neutrals etc.

The whole makeup and beauty industry is gender profiled to women and sexists towards men anyway, so don't know what they are complaining about.

This.

Most people have no clue how photo manipulation works. It's additive, not subtractive. You cant just subtract a layer of make up from a flat photograph because the computer has absolutely ZERO data on what has been concealed by the make up! There could have been a massive birth mark on the woman's face for all the computer knows! lol

The algorithm can only go as far as taking an input, modifying pixels to make subject look a little more like a horse, and then output. No make up is technically getting "removed". The app is designed to simulate the typical difference make up can make.

And from comparing with real world examples the app is pretty spot on, in fact I'd say it's pretty forgiving, There are some complete horses under some of these cakes.

Nice idea but really poor results compared to other fun face swap style apps.

As for the drama...no clue. I think some people just have a subconscious need to feel outraged.

The theory behind it is good though. When you meet a girl in real life, the makeup they wear means they look very little like what they do without makeup. Almost like they are trying to scam men by being something they are not. Back in my day women wore makeup to enhance their looks. Just a couple of touches and they were good to go and you knew what they would look like without makeup on. Todays girls wear so much makeup it looks like they are wearing every shelf in superdrug. Rarely do they look even close to what they are without makeup on.

I think you are massively generalising there. Not all women are absolutely caked with makeup

Though there is certainly a trend for some girls to wear a ton of it, false eyelashes, nails etc

That sort of girl has never appealed to me anyway though, I think they look ridiculous. It's the old 'Snog, Marry, Avoid' thing.

I work in a university, I see first hand how much makeup these girls wear even just for university, nevermind going out.

....do you watch snog marry avoid? :D

Oi! I don't look that bad in the light!
No, but I suspect that, like most of us, you look even better in the dark! :p
I've actually downloaded it, so will have a play next time I'm away from the desk. Apparently it can add makeup as well - I wonder if I'll look as manly as Danny Dire does with his 'guyliner'...

Looks like it removes eyelashes too.
So will a mischevious classmate with a bunsen burner...

I uninstalled it, but I'm now curious to see what happens if you continuously run the "after" photo through it. Stacking the effects if you will.
