Virgin Media Discussion Thread

After 16 years of VM broadband, I moved to an area which doesn't have it...biggest mistake ever! Love the house, hate btopenlynotreach...

I've recently started a local campaign in the area to get peeps to register on VM's cablemystreet, does anybody have any experience of this actually working and getting VM to come along and install cable?

In our favour, the nearest VM box is closer than the FTC cabinet we are connected to by a long way, we are in a corner of a housing estate not served, where there are two main roads forming a triangle, outside of that triangle have VM, inside we don't.

Against us, we live in an area of lots of new build developments going up where it's far easier for VM to lay cable than coming along and digging up established roads...

So just had VM installed and ran a speedtest and was getting the full 200MB download.

Disconnected everything as I needed to put my TV unit back and now speedtests are showing less than 100MB?!

Tried on Wireless and Wired and same speeds!

Sorry don’t mean to hurry you, but any idea how soon you might be able to do this please? If not, I might just go with the full house bundle with 300/20.
Hi mate,
My installation isn't until the 30th so I don't think I can refer someone without even having the service myself.

Once Virgin have cabled up a street, how long does it usually take before they finish testing, etc and you can buy a package from them? My street was cabled up about a month ago and I'm still being told I’m in their expansion plan.

So the numpties have arranged for an engineer to come round (? To scope out the house I’m guessing) despite me requesting self install. The day they have chosen doesn’t work..so will have to ask them to change it!

Who has the best Broadband only deal on here ??

Also has anyone else noticed after you hand in you cancellation VM starts messing with you broadband ? I cancelled on the 6th my iplayer buffers every 10 mins, speeds frop between 60mb - 155mb Im paying for 150, even loading pages takes longer.

That sounds more like congestion then *tin foil hat* VM deliberately messing with your line.
I thought that originally but It not happened before well not to such a extent. its too frequent and at all hours, to only happen after i cancelled like is it cant be random.

Have Virgin removed traffic management/speed reductions on downloads and just set it to uploads now?

I was on the Gamer 200 package, but recently I see in my account it has been changed to Vivid 200 Optical Fibre, the page here https://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic-management-policy-thresholds.html says there is no download policy just uploads, and again on this page I take it this just related to uploads https://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic-management-policy-30Mb-or-higher.html

Long ago nearly all if not all Tiers had DL STM removed and since then no UL STM on higher packages like 200 Gamer (now dead) , Vivid 300/350 but ALL have PSP Shaping at peak times if needed in your area.

OK thanks.

Sounds like I shouldn't worry about it being on Vivid 200 then. Oddly enough I still get 20Mbps uploads, so maybe it's just the naming on the account details page that is different.

AFAIK peeps who paid higher for joke of Gamer Package (I beta tested it) all got upgraded to Vivid 300 (some may have even been upgraded to Vivid 350) for free when it was killed off as it should never have been released to start with.

Not sure how you got downgraded, check you got price reduction also.

Many on Vivid 300 got freely upgraded to Vivid 350 with/without asking.

Post your Config file here (have you rebooted HUB since change to account)?

Yep, my SH has been rebooted since, I did a speed test on Saturday and got 220Mbps down and 21Mbps up. I was never upgraded when it got binned off.

I basically asked them to leave me on the gamer package when I phoned up to cancel the package due to the price rise (moving TV back to Sky but keeping BB) and the lady told me the package would remain the same for BB and it wouldn't change.
