no, affirmative action is very real at plenty of US universities - exceptions are for example public universities in California thus the highly selective UC Berkeley which doesn't practice affirmative action ends up with a very large Asian American student population (by far the largest ethnic group on campus)
American college admission policies aren’t based solely on grades. Asian Americans tend to have better than average grades but are weaker than average when it comes to other criteria such as extracurricular activities (voluntary work, sports participation, etc.).
sure they're not based solely on grades but grades are pretty important! Fact is that Asian Americans have to score higher grades than European Americans, African Americans etc..
