VEGA 64 LC VS 1080ti or wait for Volta?

Will be gaming at 4k or/and the custom res 21.9 version of 4k anyway.

VEGA 64 and 1080ti look just about ok for 4k 50/60 fps now but come next lot of titles, I think they won't be enough and you will really need at least volta 2080 for this?

Wouldn't touch any current gen card for 4k, but I'm sure other's will feel deferently.

I say wait, for a "proper" 4k card, no compromises.

Yeah having a look at reviews and 1080ti is just about maintaining 60 fps now so I can't see it keeping up with 4k/60 fps for much longer.....

All reviews and benchmarks seem to use AA in all the tests. At 4K AA is not needed at all that alone beta you a decent FPS boost, also, I may be alone in this, dropping setting down to high, nets you a further boost in FPS, and the difference in visual fidelity between high and ultra isn’t much at all.

To be honest I gamed at 4k on a Fury Nano at medium settings and because of the increased resolution the level of detail was incredible and made for a decent gaming experience. 1080ti would be plenty of power, just turn a couple of pointless things off or lower them, such as AA etc. I think these days Ultra settings can't be told apart from medium/high unless you compare it frame for frame.

I think of the 1080Ti as a 1440p card which is purely down to poor PC optimisation. You should consider a 1440p panel or it's extra wide variant with Freesync or Gsync.

I thought my 1080ti did 4k 60hz no problems, so long as you're not one of those numpties that has all the quality sliders all maxed out because you think you can tell the difference, then it is more than enough at a mixture of high/ultra, no/low AA etc.

Those numpties will never get a card that does that, some of them still wont even do that at 1080p when they do daft stuff like that. It's all about dialling in the game to get rid of all the settings that tank performance whilst making no discernible visual difference.

True that about turning down settings, something I already do anyway.

Just shows much you gain with little impact to IQ.

Having a look at the volta thread, looks like it might be worth waiting anyway as there seems to be talk of a pascal refresh coming or/and ampere arriving at beginning of 2018....

As much as I would love g/free sync, I'm not considering a monitor again until:

1. tech improves, crazy that they still using old LCD tech
2. prices reflect the tech. they use, I just don't see the point spending £1000+ on 34" 1440 free/g sync 100HZ fake HDR IPS/VA when you can get OLED 55" true hdr 4k for a few hundred pounds more especially if just for casual gaming i.e. nothing competitive
3. they sort their QC/issues out, especially the IPS variants

Probably won't ever happen due to the way market works i.e. TV vastly larger than monitor market

Agreed. I was all set for Vega with a new HDR panel until I saw the lack of real standards and the OTT pricing. Decided to stick with my old 1440p IPS panel and bought a 1080Ti in the hope it would sustain 60FPS minimums.

Perhaps the consoles will bring down panel pricing with their support for Freesync, fingers crossed.

If its a Ti over a Vega 64, then the Ti all day long, but only £599 for the LC now, thats hard to ignore.

Will be upgrading in January myself, and looking at a 1080Ti. Will be gaming at 1440p only, so thinking to Ti will be more than enough. Or wait till Volta? :confused:

no one can really answer this as we don't know your disposable income situation, if it was me I would buy a 1080ti and then get volta-ti when it comes out probably more like end of next year as it will probably be the xx80 volta then titan volta before the ti shows up

I think it depends very much on the game. Games where distance vision is important play much better. For instance, you'll notice the pixels moving in the distance when at 1080p they wouldn't be displayed at all. Or you'll get a shape instead of a single pixel. Etc.

Are you really comparing 4k to 1080p with screenshots? You also probably viewing said 4k screendhot on a 1080p monitor lol

4k can only be truly viewed at its native resolution in person. Not even 4k youtube footage viewed on a 4k display does it justice.

I'm comparing 2 screenshots 4A games provided to purposely show how little the difference really is and as you can see there is a difference but it's not one that's worth the performance penalty which was the point I was making. As for 4k yes I have seen 4k on a 4k screen, Who hasn't?
