Yes, it's another potential eBay scam attempt and advice thread. I won an auction last week for a PC and paid by PayPal plus requested the item was sent to a local Argos. The seller emailed to say they were out of the country and would send on Wednesday. However, a couple of days later I received an email from eBay saying the auction had been removed but did not say why or by whom. The email said not to pay but if I have paid I am covered and if there are any problems to contact the "Resolution Centre".

Hadn't received the parcel by the end of the week and so emailed over the weekend to which the seller replied the item had been sent on Thursday.

Today, I received an email from Hermes saying the item would be delivered between 8:00am and 12:00am. The email arrived at 9:14am with a link for tracking information. Clicking on the link shows the parcel was delivered to "safe place" at 9:07am but does not give any details on where this "safe place" is. The safe place is not the house as someone was at home until 10:00am and would have answered the door.

I wonder if this is a scam or just a genuine error. It’s a bit sus that the auction item was removed which I’ve never had before. I'm going to pop to the local Argos tomorrow to see if it's there and they've not sent the code yet. If it is a scam then what are my chances of getting my money back?

Hermes... that's all I need to know.

Good luck, hermes will have signed for it in your stead which paypal will take as the gods honest truth regardless of evidence and close in the favour of the seller in my experience.

If it was being delivered to an Argos you shouldn’t see a Hermes email. I’ve had stuff sent to Argos and you just get a message saying it’s at Argos, go fetch it, I’ve never heard from the courier. Sounds weird to me.

Surely the Hermes link you got at least gives the destination they were attempting to deliver to?

I hope not! Whilst it wasn't a vast amount of money the transaction has been dodgy since the seller or eBay removed the auction. Their advice was not to pay but too late. If they don't cover it then they've gone back on their advice.

I thought that too but there's no details about where the parcel came from or where the "safe place" is. At best, the tracking information is evidence something was delivered somewhere but that could be a parcel the seller sent to themselves.

The safe place would be Argos so they should have your parcel?

I agree but Argos send a text and email with a code saying the parcel has arrived and to present the code at the counter. I've received not email or text. I have the transaction email saying the item will be delivered to the address of the local Argos not my address. As Vonhelmet says the courier should not be contacting me only Argos. If the seller has obtained my address and sent it to that address then that's their problem as I did not ask for it and eBay has a record of this.

The only get out for the seller is to say that as the auction was removed then the option to send to Argos became invalid. But I've not received anything about this from eBay or the seller and eBay is still showing the address of the local Argos.

Buying a PC off ebay is just like buying a used car, you don’t know it’s full history. How much did you pay out for it OP?

Thanks for the replies.

Okay, I'll put in a claim with PayPal later as I'll pop to Argos and see what I can find out. Not expecting too much from Argos as I don't have a code so they will probably want nothing to do with it.

It was £50 all in and odd as it may sound I wasn't expecting it to work as it was a vintage PC. But always wanted one when I was a kid so if it worked great but no big deal if it didn't as I'll leave it until Christmas to have a good look at it and see if I can get it going.

Can't you ring Hermes and ask them?

if the email is legit they'll have trace of it.

I may contact Hermes but not expecting to get anything from them given previous experiences with other couriers. Unless you were the person that sent the package then my experience is that they won't speak to you. Similarly, if the package was lost then the person who makes the claim is the one who sent the package. So if the package is lost and the seller is uncommunicative/uncooperative then don't get anywhere.

another ebay thread, another van damme pic

after 500 threads this year nobody can say they haven't been warned about that cesspit of a site

Went to Argos this morning and they haven't received the parcel but they are expecting on their system where the status is not received. They know the local Hermes courier and they told me she has not been yesterday or today (or at least in the morning).

Just finished a webchat with Hermes and they say the parcel has been delivered to Argos and signed for by Tracey. Their advice was to get the sender to contact them (Hermes) to chase it up. I think I'll go to the Resolution Centre and let the seller know that way.

How so? I bought a replacement PSU for the Mac Pro on Saturday and arrived today.

The argos system dosent seem great.

I had a parcel delivered there last week and i went to collect but they were having issues with the tablets they use.

Upshot is i keep getting reminders to pick the parcel up even tho i already have it. The ebay status still shows it as being prepared and will be ready on 13th November.

Auction was removed, end of story. You're not obliged to go through with anything.

It'll be removed by eBay and you should ignore any further contact from seller.

"if I have paid I am covered and if there are any problems to contact the Resolution Centre"

So why havn't you contacted the resolution centre?
