VEGA 64 LC VS 1080ti or wait for Volta?

I'm comparing 2 screenshots 4A games provided to show how little the difference really is and as you can see there is a difference but it's one that's not worth the performance penalty which was the point I was making. As for 4k yes I have seen 4k on a 4k screen lol.

And like I said comparing them has they are is a pointless comparison if you not viewing them both on a 4k screen.

It's like them adverts years ago showing HD and people viewing it back on a SD TV lol

You only truly see the benefits if you have the screen.

As far as buying now or waiting....That could be a never ending question. As soon as the next gen cards come out, there will be storied of the gen after. If you have the money, go for the ti. As mentioned earlier, get the ti now, wait for next gen ti and then sell your existing one. Still get a good year+ of gaming from it.

I don't really intend of changing gpu every year or 2 so probably be best to wait for ampere/volta, only way I could do this in order to avoid major loss would be to buy right at launch and then sell before the announcement of the next replacing model is out but that would mean having to go back to an older/cheaper gpu for a few months.

While high resolutions such as 4k do look a little better I don't think the visual improvement offered over 1080p is worth the performance hit.

Yeah I find 4k to only provide a decent improvement for some games, a lot of games still don't use proper 4k textures etc.

I'll probably end up just sticking to 1080P on the TV tbh as 1080P OLED will still look far better than any 4k/1440 LCD monitor.

Wait You are comparing crappy LC VEGA vs 1080TI ?? Its no brainer as i see it lol
But Ye id wait for Next card gen now.

Is vega 64 LC not pretty even with a 1080ti at 4k? Thought the biggest gap was when at 1080P?

Agreed. I was all set for Vega with a new HDR panel until I saw the lack of real standards and the OTT pricing. Decided to stick with my old 1440p IPS panel and bought a 1080Ti in the hope it would sustain 60FPS minimums.

Perhaps the consoles will bring down panel pricing with their support for Freesync, fingers crossed.

Doubt it as most console gamers like the sitting back on the sofa with a big tv in front of them :(

1080ti should handle 1440p with ease though. I'll be sticking with my 29" 2560x1080 for the foreseeable future so it won't take much to run any games I do play on that res! :p

Is that an Xbox screenshot though?

Xbox Scorpio couldn’t do 1080p to a desired std let alone 4K. No I’m not saying 4K is massively better but would prefer a decent system screen shot.

Hi, At the reveal event I'm pretty sure that they said they were PC shots and they brought them to show how good 1080p looked, even in comparison to 4k. I'll try and find the article about it.

Are you really comparing 4k to 1080p with screenshots? You also probably viewing said 4k screendhot on a 1080p monitor lol

4k can only be truly viewed at its native resolution in person. Not even 4k youtube footage viewed on a 4k display does it justice.

Can't agree more strongly with the above. Before I experienced 4k with my own eyes on a screen in front of me, all the videos, screenshots etc etc made me think long and hard about whether there was much in it. First time I fired up a game on a decent 4k screen blew me away. Although I will concede that some people simply can't see the difference, like my old man who still watches SD TV on his all singing/dancing 4k QDOT Samsung.

Those screenshots are about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

4K QDOT Samsung TV looks great for gaming at 4k on PC, all those pixels a couple of ft from your face taking up your field of view, lovely :) switch it out for a 1080p screen, he might not notice :D

If you want the card to last 2-3 years, Vega is probably better as AMD seem to have better longterm support of theyre GPU's. If you are gonna upgrade next year or just after the 1080ti would be fine. 4k is deffo doable on a 1080ti just not with silly settings that make no difference. Like ultra and high setting have little difference yet ultra kills the fps...

Neither and grab an Xbox:D

If they had stunning exclusives like sony has with the last of us, HZD etc., I would have no problem getting the xbox 1 x but they don't :(

With regards to longevity of gpus, after seeing how the fury (x) has aged terribly in the last year, I am more concerned about how vega will age now given that it was even more of a flop for popularity/sales and already becoming EOL.... Only way vega will last is if the majority of games jump to d x12/vulkan....

Yer fair one. I am tempted to get one for my OLED downstairs but not sure what use it would get in truth. Vega will be good over the years as well, so no issues there.

PS4?

If so, all the amazing exclusives!

If xb1x then yeah no point when you got a decent PC already.

I still want a ps4 pro badly but with the xb1x kicking the ps 4 pro's ass now, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony speed up their PS 5 launch.

I've decided just to wait until nvidia's next cards arrive, just no point spending £500+ on vega 64 when chances are nvidia volta/ampere will smash vega 64 in <6 months time and probably be cheaper :o So yeah I'll either look at getting the 2080 or even the 2080ti if the performance is there like previous TI cards.....

Also, given how terribly the fury (x) has aged, I wouldn't be surprised if vega ages just as bad now, at least for where dx 11 is concerned....

Lets hope vulkan/dx 12 starts to take of for AMD's sake.

Fury's problem is 4GB VRAM without any efficient way to extend that with RAM.
HBCC is pretty much tailored for mitigating that problem.

HBCC doesn't work for all games though, as in, it seems to harm performance more in certain games, unless AMD has fixed the issues via driver updates....

Either way, it is embarrassing to see even the 980 slightly beating the fury x now :o

In older games, yes. But aren't the new games like swbf 2, wolfenstein, destiny 2 and so on pretty evenly matched at "4k"
There is no older games and newer games, there is only games, the 1080Ti is still faster in SWBF2 and Destiny 2 by 30%. It's 10% to 15% faster @4K in Wolfenstien 2. The rest of the 2017 games have the 1080Ti far ahead in the lead as well. Vega 64 only manages to barely keep with the regular 1080.

Both my daughters boyfriends have XB1X's, so a bit of online Fifa with them would do nicely.

Not a bad shout on waiting and not sure when Volta will be released but I imagine prices going up further :(

Probably will, hopefully not too much though, if the 1070 came in at £350 with 980ti performance then hopefully the 2070 will come in with around 1080ti performance for <£400 and the 2080 being about £500, not ideal but I would be happy enough with that, if dearer than that..... then meh!
