Which Broadband Provider would You Choose

My contract with BT is due up for renewal in December and I am on the Infinity 2 package with anytime call and paying £49 a month which I feel is a bit to much to pay so I am now looking to move providers and I just wondered which one would you choose.

Plusnet on the 76mb package with anytime calls is £38 per month plus money back with Quidco or Topcash 18 month contract

Sky fibre max with anytime calls is £38 per month with a £50 prepaid mastercard 18 month contract

Vodafone 76mb package with anytime calls is £38 per month for 18 months and £21 back with topcash back.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Why do you need Anytime calls? Do you not have unlimited minutes on your mobile phone contract?

Go for any of the mentioned ISPs whichever can do it for £30pm or less a month and the most cash back. Seems to be the 'best price' rate for 76Mb fibre.

Do you currently have Sky TV? If yes they'll work the best bundle deal out for you, other than that Plusnet was ok for me whilst with them.

They all use the same infrastructure so you want to base your decision on the differentiators, which are:
  • Price for a given speed
  • Customer Service
  • Any bundled extras that make the effective price lower for you
  • Any traffic shaping, usage policies, data caps or other limitations of the service
On that basis I use Plusnet as I speak to people in the UK if I need support, there's no shaping or limitations, I can use my own hardware which is important to me (and the reason I left Vodafone before they changed their policy) and it's cheap

Where price is the overarching factor I think at the moment people are going to Vodafone. £25/month for unlimited fibre at 76Mbps with no line rental: https://www.vodafone.co.uk/broadband/deals Then they'd use a mobile for making calls as they tend ot have unlimited minutes.

As above though it may vary by location but if I changed from Plusnet I'm more concerned over being hardware restricted or speed limited with a new ISP. So Plusnet it is for the foreseeable future. I have the 76 mbps and have always achieved that speed.

Just like to say thanks to everyone who has posted so far. I think it looks pretty much like plusnet is the way to go and I have my sim only contract with them and have had no issues so far. Where our house is positioned you can get a network signal but can be restricted if you move about with your mobile and my wife prefers to use the house phone for this very reason as she can get cut off from the person she is talking to so this is the reason I prefer the anytime calls and she uses the phone a lot during the day and night.

Get a mobile provider and phones which can wifi call, or a femtocell. I get no cell coverage at my house either but the femtocell provides perfect signal. (Vodafone suresignal in our case).

Like the OP I have had the BT email saying that my Infinity 2 and landline will increase per month unless I resign for another 18 months. Currently I pay £43.49 pcm for Infinity 2 and landline. Looking at Vodafone I can get Unlimited 76 and Landline for £27 pcm as I qualify for 10% discount as already a Vodafone mobile customer. Vodafone says estimated 49 - 68.82Mbps with a minimum of 41.8. I currently get with BT 77-78mbps according to the HH6 readings but approx. 65-67 Mbps using Speednet test. Should I expect any changes in my speeds or suchlike simply by switching from BT to Vodafone except saving £16.49 pcm. Is it worth squeezing BT for a better deal. I do a fair bit of streaming and BT has been reliable, don't want to save money but have a crap service.
How do people rate Vodafone service?
Thanks

Wi-Fi calling is preferable to a femtocell, much less fiddly, works on other people's network etc. Requires a few more things to be in place though - like phones and a carrier that supports it.

Try your current providers first and if they can not match current offerings from others switch.

Good thing now is if you do switch and they change the price you have right to leave so you could switch again meaning you will keep getting new deals and cashback.

I have sent BT an email this evening through the method that I used in the past to get a good deal. Will wait to see what they offer before any switching.

Avoid Vodafone like the plague... worst ISP in the UK by a long way.

Closely followed by TalkTalk in second place...

Sky are near the bottom of the barrel.

These cheap and chips ISPs have very high contention ratios.

Zen is the best bang for your buck... very realiable and reasonable contention with good support... highly recommended.

Just checked Zen, was just looking at the options on my exchange via Sam Knows website. Yes it's available in my area but the price is 50p higher than staying with BT and after the first 12 months it would be £3.50 per month more.

I have gone with plusnet and should be up and running with them in about a week so hoping the speed will stay the same as BT own plusnet so things should remain the same and saving £11 a month.
I did try two or three times to see if i could get a better deal but not one of the people I spoke to would budge from £38.99 for infinity 2 so bye bye BT.
