Just sold a laptop on eBay the buyer made his account today as has 0 feedback, I know everyone starts on 0 but bit worried about scammers.

Any idea if I'm allow to refuse the sale and give the second chance offer to the other bidder? Any tips to cover myself from a possible scam.

Wouldn't sell to anyone with 0 feedback and a brand new account. No way in hell.

The only time I would ever deal with someone like that if they wanted to make a "private sale" outside of eBay, ie.. meet in person and cash in hand.

I sold 1 item to a 0 feedback, new accounter. It was a limited edition pair of trainers, so the only place you could purchase them was on eBay. I was nervous about it so sent the buyer a quick email to confirm it wasn't a hacked and it was an intentional purchase. The Paypal was confirmed and item wasn't to expensive so took a chance.

If it was a very expensive item, I would just email the buyer and tell them I wasn't confidence sending to a person with zero feedback. That I will cancel the order and refund them.

Could try this:

Canceling bids
You generally shouldn't cancel bids on your listings. However, there are a few reasons you may need to cancel a bid:

  • A bidder contacts you to back out of the bid.

  • You cannot verify the identity of the bidder after trying all reasonable means of contact.

  • You end your listing early.
Important: Bids cannot be reinstated after they've been canceled.

To cancel a bid:
  1. Go to Canceling bids placed on your listing.

  2. Enter the item number, the username of the member whose bid you're canceling, and the reason you're canceling the bid.

  3. Click cancel bid.
You can also cancel a bid from Seller Hub > Overview > Shortcuts.

Lol just got an email from eBay

MC067 Suspicious buyer for item
"We had to cancel bids for the buyer because they aren't registered on eBay.

You can change your eBay preferences to refuse bids from certain geographic areas and feedback score. Selling to a 0 feedback member is.... high risk.

You can't block bidders with zero feedback, only negative feedback and even then you only have a couple of choices. The options to block people from bidding are just pathetic on ebay.

Not every person with zero feedback is a scammer. Everybody has to start somewhere. I sold my old EVGA GTX780 FTW last year to a new buyer. He paid instantly and had excellent comms throughout the sale. I had no problems and because it was a sell for £1 offer I made a hell of a lot more money than I would have in our MM.

Not worth the risk either way. Take the few quid hit and relist it with the setting to ban people with less than however much feedback.
