As title says, just wondering what % of your monthly take home is eaten by travel costs? I changed job 2 years ago, went from 20k to 26k but increased my commute from 22 to 50 miles per day. With rising costs of travel I am considering changing job just to reduce the travel bill!

1000 miles a month just to commute to work is costing £160+ in fuel. That is 10% of my monthly take home. Thats without any repair bills for the car etc

I just want to work out an average from the lovely forum members at OcUK :-)

10%

Not much, as I cycle, but as @hornetstinger says I get through a lot more food as a result... I can't say I've ever thought too much about the dumping end of things, though.

I don't need so much in the way of consumables for my bike as it's single speed, so it's just tyres, chain and freewheel and the odd spare part here and there.

I've commuted nearly 7000 miles on the bike in the last 18 months. I dread to think how much that would have cost me in petrol and parking.

I used to walk to work but my job moved and I drive about 5 miles now. However it's right next to my gym which I was going to everyday anyways so I don't think of it adding extra expenses.

Plus by cycling you use more energy therefore need more food. More food= more poo therefore more toilet paper. Plus time to go toilet so that is lost hours.

Doing that on company time and an extra biscuit with my drinks usually solves those issues :)

Walk to work now so 0%, used to be 8-10% and I'd need similar again if I changed jobs.
