I have got some annual leave to use up, but drawing a blank where to go. Can anyone suggest good places to go not too expensive for someone travelling alone?. Looking to go for about a 7 to 10 days maximum. The US is off the list as is skiing/snowboarding due to ankle injury.

How expensive is too expensive, as i would have put a US trip or skiing as fairly pricey as far as holidays go?

If you are looking to see sights and travel a lot, will injury hinder you or cause pain if a fair bit of walking/hiking is involved?

Are you looking for a city escape, culture exploration or interesting in viewing wildlife and stuff?

What difference does traveling alone make here? (Unless you're also wanting recommendations from people for companies organising group tours etc.. you can just turn up on as a single traveler, in which case I can't help there). The destinations themselves that are cheap when traveling with a partner/group would also be cheap when traveling by yourself.

Maybe check out Central Europe - Prague, Vienna, Budapest etc..

Travel groups are a great shout. Despite being more costly than putting it together yourself as well as dropping certain freedoms of organisation, you do gain company normally of similar age group and common language. Everyone on these trips normally have the holiday buzz, so close friendships and good times are had at a different kind of pace.

If it was me, i would opt for going solo if i was intent on seeing as much stuff as possible and wanted the flexibility of moving on when i wanted was massively important. If i was looking to use up my work holidays and was drawing blanks about where to go and what to plan as you are, i would do the group holiday, as the social part and easy planning would be two big pluses i'd happily pay more for.

I just did 2 weeks in Japan solo, not cheap mind but then again I’m sure you could do it cheap if you are willing to go capsule hotels.

Ryanair to Barcelona, take bus tours, get drunk on cheap alcohol, train to Madrid, take bus tours, get drunk on cheap alcohol, train to Malaga, take bus tour (Don't go there in August you might die of heat stroke), get drunk on cheap alcohol. Meet drunk Irish woman who is also on vacation in Spain. Fornication ensues. Take train to Valencia. Bus tour. Train to Barcelona, Ryanair back to UK.

Thanks guys lots of useful info there. Regarding ankle injury, walking/hiking is no issue but not upto showboarding, skiing etc.
In terms of budget i don't want to spend more than £800 for everything ideally.

Just go to Italy, do Rome and Florence.

Central or Eastern Europe is probably better then.

I have been to Rome, Venice, Verona and Barcelona already. I may look at Southern Spain, Athens or Portugal.. could do with some warm/hotter weather. I have also been to Croatia before. Asia might be a bit far for 7 day trip

We stayed at Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nihombashi-ningyocho and it worked out to be about £50 a night. Small to be fair, but clean and a good location for the underground. Well worth a look imo.

Vietnam is nice. Eat cheap tasty food, drink cheap beer, ride motorbikes around. Stay in the cheap hostels, meet lots of other travellers to go drinking with and to do other things with ;)

I stayed in a range of places, cheapest was £50 night in Osaka, right by the Castle. Clean, my own bathroom, fridge and TV, like Premier Inn Quality, perfectly fine for a week. I have seen flights there a little over £500 if you don't mind a connecting flight, so it's possible to do a week for £1,000, then eat really cheap convenient store food or something which actually isn't bad! or £3-5 can get you a bowl of hot food from almost everywhere that is 10x better than Wagamama. £800 won't be enough but it can be done cheaper than people think.
