Worried about buying Sennheiser IE80 incase fake

Link not working for me.

If you are paying anything close to full price just buy from somewhere definitely legit.

It's a gamble. I got stung twice in a row trying to get ie800 cheaper. Once on ebay and once from a high street store in London (wasn't an authorised dealer). Both times they sounded great, they pleased me even against my ie80. But i had no reference and that can play on your mind. Turns out the tell tale sign for me was the cable being a few centimetres longer. I then bought new from an authorised dealer and compared. They were identical, except for length. Now i will only buy new or if proven to me.

this guy says he has receipt from amazon Germany last year

is it true the way to test fakes is see if the bass dial on side works ??

I might just buy SE60's for £100 from amazon

The difference between SE60 and SE80 can't be night and day can it?

You'd probably be OK, if all fakes lacked the engraved Sennheiser logo on the back of the earphones. Not all fakes are equal though...

I've looked at two comparisons of a fake pair against the genuine IE80, and both fakes are different. One fake pair had some more noticeable differences that can be spotted without having a genuine pair to compare with, like not having an engraved Sennheiser logo on the back or the bass dial not doing anything. The other fake pair, to look at, were not far off an identical match. Without a genuine pair to compare with, I doubt anyone would know. Whether the bass dial works on the better quality fakes, I don't know. The outer packaging has a few tell tale signs, but if the seller doesn't have the box....

Then there's the seller's less than ideal feedback. Only three are as a seller, and one of them negative. I wouldn't risk it, because if they are fake, they are certainly the better quality ones; If the bass dial works, then I'm not sure you'd know for sure if they were fake without a genuine pair to compare against.

Deffo going to sack off the SE80's unless from approved retailer I just don't trust any

I reckon I'll go with Shure SE425's

Off to richer sounds tomorrow to have a listen

I would ALWAYS buy Sennheiser from an authorised dealer. May cost a little more but at least you are assured of getting the real thing. Also you may like to visit the Sennheiser site. They have a lot of factory reconditioned items at silly low prices. Factory reconditioned are always absolutely mint condition from Sennheiser.

I went to my local Richer sounds and tried out some Shure SE425's for £240. I couldn't even get them in my ear, so sacked them off. Tried some others which I can't remember the make but they were around £200. Again I couldn't get on with them.

In the end I actually sacked off the idea of high end in ears and just bought some Sennheiser momentum in ear m2 for £70. Most people who buy these are happy enough with them, and so am I.

I have some HD650's and some PX100-II's. After trying on so many headphones in Richer sounds and Currys (can I say currys??) I actually really appreciate my small PX100-II's a lot more now, and my 650's are my reference of which I compare every headphone to

At the minute I enjoy making mix tapes on high end equipment from vinyl, and then playing back on the go on my Sony Walkmans.
