What % of your take home pay goes on commute costs?

About 5% if I've done the maths right. Feels like nothing in comparison to my rent (London innit).

If were including only petrol and not other things like insurance and car tax , repairs etc. Then it is 1.6% but this is for the fuel for the entire month including non work commuting. I would estimate its probably 1% as i only live 3.7 miles from work.

Work for a LA, but only as a lowly Admin worker, so slightly more than NMW, My commute consists of £160 a month for fuel and £160 a month for parking in said LA's car park... I'll workout a % at some point after i've wiped the tears from my eyes.

update

Ok, if i've used this online calculator right (lol) 23.65% of my yearly salary goes into my commute.

So you make over £16,000 a month?

None of it currently. I'm able to walk :)

When commuting into Cardiff from my home in Wales I'd pay £90 for the train per month, but walk to and from the station.

Edit: at that time I was only bringing in 400 pm, so 25% I suppose.

tell me about it, Learnt recently they're putting the parking up further by 30p.
£160/month is like £7/day. There's an NCP round the corner from my work (West End) where you can get 6hrs for £10 or 12hrs for £15. So your place isn't far off that! Can't you park somewhere else?

16k ish a year, I've worked out i think, 23.65% a year goes into my commute.
Wouldnt you be far better off just getting a local job in a shop or something like this? I am not being facetious, you'd be better off doing something like that if it was close and had free parking as i am sure it would if it was a supermarket or something.

0%. I either cycle using my MTB which I’d have anyway, and the weekend riding causes exponentially more wear and tear than 3km of road riding, or if I’m feeling lazy I take the company provided transport.

Just checked our NCP

5 to 6 hours £21.00
6 to 24 hours £24.00

There's no other parking solutions around, all the free residential ones that were around years ago have been quickly changed to permit parking.

Yeah i've been saying for a while now, i'm better off working for my local corner shop, after taking the commute charges off i'm earning well below NMW.

Why dont you look into whatever your local mainstream supermarket offer, or other mainstream type retail outlets which should provide for a corporate structure and stable secure payment etc (as opposed to a local corner shop which doesnt sound very secure). :)

I've been trying to get into an IT support role for ages, I only have a couple months of experience in the sector due to being an agency worker at the time for years, this admin role is the first secure permanant job i've had, I'll either get a response as "Your interview was of high standard, but unfortunately we've chosen someone who's had more experience" or don't bother giving me feedback.

Not sure if I should go the apprentice route just to try and get myself into an IT role as it's where I want to be, I'm highly confident when working around hardware, i've built numerous systems, I learn things pretty quickly, I never used windows server in an organistation before but quickly picked up how to use active directory and the sort when I worked for said IT role for a few months.

Quite disheartening.
