Duplicate Entries in Android Phone Dialer

I bought my wife a Nokia 5 and transferred all her data and contacts. However, got a strange problem with the contacts. In contacts they only show once but under the phone dialler they show twice. It looks like a Whatsapp issue to me (second contact has the Whatsapp logo next to numbers) and I've done some googling but none of the things I've looked at have made any difference. I'm sure I've come across this before but can't remember how to fix it. I've tried uninstalling Whatsapp but that didn't work, also deleted cache in apps.

Can anyone help before I pull out what little hair I have left?

What contacts do you see if you look at them in Google Contacts in a browser?

check if the contact sync is on on your google account using your phones settings. sometimes that causes it.

Just single contacts. I'm sure it's Whatsapp related so I'll uninstall that again and try it.

Every time I've installed WhatsApp I've had the same issue,on different phones too.Must be a setting.
You can change which contacts are shown in the phone settings.For example,just from sim card,just Google account and so on.Have a look you may be doubling up the contacts there

Where is this setting? Can't find anything like this on my wife's phone but I'm probably looking in totally the wrong place!

Launch your contacts app,then 'contacts to display',then tick the option you prefer.
There may well be a setting in whatsapp too.Often in android 1 setting will over ride another so you have to play about a bit.I no longer use whatsapp.
Also you could try clearing the cache/data in the dialler app,or uninstalling/reinstalling it or if you still have the problem try another dialler app
