Kaspersky coming to steal your stuff!

Sensible advice or tin foil hat time for the government? Personally I think they shouldn't use it, but with our government I would be more surprised if they use anything at all! :D

Surely the government would have a bespoke utility suite for something like this rather than using an off the shelf piece of software?

I do believe that there is a lot bad propaganda that seeks to paint Russia as the big bad at every opportunity. Of course the Russians will likely be operating surveillance on us but so are our biggest allies.

We are spying on our own citizens, our own allies and our own enemies also.

These kind of articles are nothing but propaganda to agitate the public against Russia.

^^ this

But knowing the government they are probably using a version from 2013 :)

Hold on, am I reading this right? The UK/US governments say Kaspersky is bad, in part because they suspect Kaspersky were the ones who found and reverse engineered the NSA hacking tools, which the NSA has been using to hack thousands of private citizens?

So Kaspersky is bad for revealing to the world how the NSA had been hacking everyone?

Oh, and, they "might" be hacking us?

So on the one hand 100% proof that the NSA had been hacking us all.
On the other hand, the NSA says Kaspersky "might" be hacking us.

And we're supposed to root for the NSA? :p

LOLs.

Spot on.

I do from time to time wonder how much data collection goes on behind the scenes with much of the software we use.

I realise that Microsoft (e.g. Windows 10), Google (e.g. Search analysis), Facebook, etc. probably know more about us than we do ourselves but what about Anti-Virus software, CCleaner, Banking "Security" software (e.g. Trusteer Rapport),etc.?

Your computer is the most valuable marketing tool available today - just check your SPAM folder.

Of course nations will try to put spyware in products. You can guarantee windows has some too.

I never really grasped this article. From what I read the NSA employee had these projects on his home pc running kasperspy, they then detected something suspect and uploaded it to reverse it. Sounds like a pretty standard thing for an antivirus to do.

If anyone's at fault it's the NSA guy being a moron.

Edit: I hate to go tin foil hat but there's certainly been a step up in anti russia/NK media recently.

Well just got an email from Barclays that they have pulled Kaspersky from free offer to their customers. They are taking this seriously.

The only people i know who use Kaspersky are Barclays customers. But so for no one has actually found they are doing anything wrong?

It's not tin foil to simply recognise something which is happening in reality. The tin foil comes in when one attributes these happenings to actual malice/saying they are the result of active decisions - without substantiation.

Anti Russia propaganda has been increasing for at least 1 year, since before they aired that Panorama "investigation" about Putin, this was just shy of 1 year ago.

Just look how John Sweeney behaves. Do you trust John Sweeney in this episode? Because I sure as hell don't. He is literally in-credible.

Anti-NK rhetoric I can understand, because they did threaten to use nukes as a first strike weapon against US interests in an around the Pacific and then proceeded to lob all manner of long range missiles around.
