A 19-year-old Muslim woman was approached by a security guard at a London branch of McDonald's and told to remove her hijab because it posed a "security threat". She filmed the incident on her mobile 'phone and the video was allegedly posted on Twitter by a friend [BBC Link].

Two things about this tale puzzle me:
  1. How exactly does a hijab pose a "security threat"? Is it the same as a "hoodie"?
  2. At what point did the woman start videoing the interaction? Is there some "previous" involved?

pretty much the same as a hoodie... I do wonder though if she was perhaps wearing something more akin to a niqab and just referring to it as a hijab or something

either way it doesn't breach the company's policies so the security guard was wrong to stop her.... companies however are perfectly entitled to stop people who wear such things from entering their premises if they chose to

presumably not long before she started filming

Okay, assuming she was ACTUALLY strapped with a bomb, wouldn't the intervention of the security guard potentially be a cause of the bomb going off in McDonalds??

I don't think most security guards employed by McDonalds really have ANY CLUE WHATSOEVER about security.

Of course they don't.

Also, I've never seen a McDonalds security guard. What slum was this filmed in? :p

Telling a woman to remove her hijab does not magically mitigate an actual potential security threat. Whether it's potential terror or whatever.

And then plastering this sort of stuff over world media only riles up the real extremists for goodness sake. When will people realise man we are just going the wrong way about stopping extremism.

London presumably...

you get security guards at night, they're supposed to be there to stop really drunk/aggressive people and the occasional hobo but not muslims

Just looks like he hasn't been trained properly in the video, probably told not to let anyone in covering their face (bike helmets etc) and got mixed up.

That said why does a McDonalds need a security guard? That's pretty sad
