Has anyone done any research recently on a cashback type credit card? I currently get 1% cashback on purchases; could this be better?

Also, my cash ISA returns 0.25% and it seems a bit bizarre that my credit card pays a better rate which is also tax free, or am I not thinking straight?

I'd be interested in switching credit card if I could get a better deal. Please note that any balance transfer offer would be meaningless as I pay my balance off in full every month.

A quick Google seems to show 1% is the usual maximum cashback, apart from some specific short term deals on specific spends.

You're not thinking right about your cash ISA, as it's tax free too, plus it benefits from compound interest. Though you can transfer it to get a better rate than 0.25%

Good deal there, my current Nationwide CC had 0.5% cashback on everything but they've written to me last week to say from next year the rate will be dropped to 0.25%

Current card is a Halifax Mastercard that I've had probably 10 yrs+

Got the proper name for it?

I've just had a quick glance and can't see any doing cashback (albeit clarity offering a one off cashback amount).

I'm also on the lookout for a new cashback credit card, but they're all a bit pants nowadays.

I used to have MBNA rewards, which gave me 2% on Amex purchases. But they've stopped the scheme now because it was costing them too much.

I know there are some great Amex cashback cards out there, but they all require something like a £2k spend in the first 3 months, of which i don't anticipate needing to buy something for £2k.

Thanks anyway, probably a card they're no longer offering :(

I'm tempted with the Tesco credit card, as i have a clubcard account, and will happily convert vouchers into partner vouchers (Zizzi most of the time). So need to work out if per £1 spent, i'm better off getting clubcard points, or if i can find another cc provider giving 0.5-1% back as cash.

I got £20 from TopCashBack for opening my new Halifax card. Worth bearing in mind too.

I think generally cashback on cards is a bit naff, you're better off getting airmiles or some other sort of points..

My

Switching bank once every 2 years - an easy 125
Cash back credit card (Amex) - was 50 quid last year
Top cashback - awesome for
-utility switching
-car insurance

This month Got 30 back from car insurance (which was already cheapest) And another 30 for switching energy.
Had 300 back from them in 4 years. I don'
use it for anything not worth my time like 23p from a pizza lol

I got £230+ cashback for my holiday last year through quidco, I use them where I can.

I should probably switch bank accounts every so often but I honestly can't be bothered :p
