Iv just got a 4k oled hdr tv, my gaming rig has been connected to a 50" plasma for the last few years and that's 1080p. Im finding the Titan x a bit choppy at 4k with max settings on some of the newer games. I know the 10x0 cards been out for a while but are they still worth a buy? Budget is around the £700 mark can go a bit higher but want to add it to loop so have to factor in spending another £100 plus on a block. Would a 1070/80 do it or am I limited to 1080ti or titan xp for 4k 60?

Yeah AAA games... hmm.. Would I have to look into sli for 4k 60? I don't mind running some settings at high-med but on Wildlands on the Titan X on high I seem to average in the 30's.

Looks like at a min I'm going to have to get the 1080ti and should get around 4k around 50fps.

Depending how far away from the TV you are sitting and how big the TV is sometimes it’s worth to drop the resolution scaling a bit or to create custom resolution slightly below your TVs resolution.

approx: 20ms, not even noticeable.

I have a Maxwell Titan X SLI on a 65" LG B6

Your cheapest option might be just to buy another one, used?

I get 4K/60fps in most things.

If FPS is key, do you absolutely HAVE to run at max graphical settings?

I get that bench mark tests on cards run at max settings to really stress the cards, but when playing the game surely dropping a few settings down to allow you to hit the 40k/60 target?

edit: just noticed your earlier post about Ghost Recon, so guess you have dropped settings there :)

IMO we're not quite there yet with 4k optimization.

Ideally you should be able to purchase a single GPU and get smooth 4k/60 - you shouldn't have to spend over 1k on SLI setups etc to achieve these results.

I honestly think we're about 2 generations away from this being the de facto standard on mid-high GPUs.

you do realise plasma's are terrible for using with PC's? and same goes for OLED.

due to image retention or even worse burn. I haven't kept up with OLED's to see if they have fixed the issue as they are too dear but it's not wise to use them with PC's.

i even stopped console gaming on my plasma because of HUD's

It's usually a good idea to keep up with a product if you're going to make a statement like your first sentence.

OLED's make for excellent gaming screens, never had games look so good and this is coming from someone who used multiple high-end monitors previously, if you play competitive FPS games like CS:GO then they're less than ideal but for most other genres they produce a phenomenal image and another level of immersion.

It requires some pretty ridiculous runtime and static image placement to produce permanent image retention: https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/permanent-image-retention-burn-in-lcd-oled

Many ways to set your screen up to avoid static images like hiding the taskbar, all black screensaver and usually being responsible enough to not have the time to sit gaming hours on end every single day without alt-tabbing or taking a break. Basically, that above test is highly unrealistic and circumstances that nobody will get close to running their screen at under normal usage.

Total rubbish

I regularly game on my LG B6 OLED for hours on end and have never even had image retention, let alone burn in.

Image quality is so far in advance of my Acer Predator X34a, its like night and day.

Got 4 years using my panasonic plasma as a pc screen and haven't got any image retention/burn.

Probably had 10000 hours gaming on it.

The older ones got image burn but panasonic fixed that for 2012 onwards.

I've ended up ordering a evga 1080ti sc, I'll see how that fairs... now over to ek for a you block.

I've had plasmas from around 2006 and the one I just upgraded from was a Panasonic vt20 and have never had image burn or retention on any and think the vt20 was from 2011.

well i have a modern panasonic plasma. the GT50 series. they only made 1 series after it the 60 series used the 50 series panels the true 60 series was actually names the 65 series and came in only the VT and the brand new ZT versions.

trust me i know my plasmas having owned 3 of them and researched them immensely.

my GT50 gets image retention and it was the last series made before the kuro killers.

i find that extremely hard to believe. i've seen it with my own eyes on my much newer panasonic plasma. i've also seen it on a much newer samsung plasma (owned by a family member) when they came to a par with panasonic in terms of PQ before panny then released the vt65 and zt 65 which blew everything out of the water.
