last minuters

Some people tend to work better when under pressure.
Absolutely this. I'm far from lazy, i'm usually quite good at prioritising but i often leave important things close to a deadline (never to the point that i cant achieve), as i find the extra pressure/stress helps me produce better results.
I like pressure, i thrive in it, obviously there are limits but pressure and stress have always helped me.

There’s being under honest pressure though and then creating your own sense of pressure doing a task that spans months right at the very end. It’s simply extremely poor management or allowing a low standard of work if you can complete month long tasks in a day or two.

We do, thats part of why i'm so annoyed at this project being messed around by last minuters as i've got more important things to be doing atm than taking the time to nanny them into getting the job done on time.

Problem is when it becomes the new level your expected to work at, then if you are pro-active and have a work ethic, etc. you get done early and it becomes the new level you are expected to work at yet again and so on - usually ends up with people hitting a wall eventually and just packing in putting in any level of effort at all unless they absolutely have to.

EDIT: Which is why lately I've been authorising an extra 10-15 minute break when people do put an effort in and get stuff done early even though I'm taking a bit of pressure for doing so - the net result is I can motivate them into doing a bit of extra work at the end of the day that otherwise wouldn't have got done with the procrastination to pad out the rest of the time.
