Movies you can't believe you liked.

There's a few that for some reason, seemed to have worked as a movie:
Zoolander - Its very silly but it is just funny for me.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension - Its got loads of stars before they were stars, quite a kitschy cult sci-fi adventure.
Spy - One of the few Melissa McCarthy movies that I enjoy.

Yes, but that's actually a fun (but twee) film you still actually like. I'm talking things you're mystified you could ever possibly have once enjoyed.

/me smacks forehead + looks for details of Zoolander's school for kids what can't read good

Honestly, I've just snuffled through the DVD/Blu-ray collection and finding it really hard to match criteria... closest I can get is Punch Drunk Love

There was a spate of films after the genuinely and sustainably brilliant Star Wars in 1977, like Battlestar Galactica and Warlords of Atlantis, which jumped on the scifi bandwagon, and my 9 year old self lapped up and thought were awesome at the time, now seem to be utter **** in comparison. BG obviously redeemed itself with a TV show eventually of course.

Oh man, the BG movie is SOOOOOOOOO awful!

He-Man!!! In my defense I was a kid and I think was just excited to have it brought to life.

A more controversial one....Conan the Barbarian (original). I remember watching the remake with the wife who had never seen the original and thinking 'meh, passable I guess, but the original is soooo much better'. I insisted the wife watch the real deal with Arnie and just thought 'wow, what an incoherent pile of crap.'

Conan was always terrible - incoherent is definitely a great description!

The Phantom Menace.

Thought it was amazing when I was 12. I was all hyped up about there being more Star Wars films. Got to see it release day as a birthday treat!

I must have gone 15 years without watching it (I had it on VHS, but not DVD), before going through all 6 films in time for Episode 7. I still believed it was amazing. Turns out, it's not. It's a pile of ****.

Enchanted. Sat through the animated section in utter horror when the current Mrs whiskycycle dragged me to see it... Then it turned into a cracker of a film.

Not ashamed either!

Yes, but that's actually a fun (but twee) film you still actually like. I'm talking things you're mystified you could ever possibly have once enjoyed.

Enchanted is one of my favourite films of all time. Amy Adams is my favourite actress!

I think Enchanted is great both for those who like Disney and those who don't. If you don't like Disney, then you'll see the film as taking a humorous swipe at Disney. If you do like Disney though, then you'll see it peppered with references and Easter eggs from old Disney films.

American Ninja, my brother and I used to watch it all the time and we watched it again this year, it's just awful.

And this is going to be controversial... but the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I cannot stand them now, truly think they are massively overrated garbage, sorry :(
Think this is true of a lot of martial arts films from that era. I remember liking no 'retreat no surrender' and a few cynthia rothrock film. Good lord what was I thinking, my parents must have thought I was mentally challenged

Howard the Duck - Absolutely loved it as a teen and bought the Blu-Ray as a 40 year old and swiftly realised what a massive mistake I'd made :D

Mortal Kombat. Watched it when I was a kid and thought it was awesome, then watched it again recently and... yeah.
